How to get our offense not to suck in 5 steps

Not questioning that but you can't protect your QB and run the read option. It's also why the lineman get confused. We suck at running and don't want Newton taking hits so why even bother?

Well if Cam throws 50 times a game you are guaranteed bad Cam comes out.....but as we saw Thurs we still have shots to win.  Heck maybe you are right....with out all those wasted Stew downs we could of had more success.  Pass or scramble

Activate Alex Armah on game days as our starting fb, maybe even line him up as te2 for time to time.  Start running the ball in i formation with armah as lead fb blocker.  More passing plays with cam under center. Run more from that and less from shtogun.  More qb rollouts out of play action. Heck just bring back the offense jake delhomme ran under dan henning. Pass on 1st down more often.  Line up our Christian Mccafery as a slot receiver.  If up by 14 or more points, on offense keep trying to get the ball in the endzone. Crush our opponents windpipe, and chop off their arms and legs...don't let them regenerate health like cod.

I ask you this though. Does a full back really matter if your tackles can't run block?

Everyone complains about the read option....

but that has been our most consistent method to actually produce on the ground. Our traditional rush attack has been pathetic for years now....Cam at least can make plays and guys can off him (even if it isn’t consistent....it is more so than the traditional run)

That's because it's what the coach's focus on. They're either lazy or retarded. They can't or won't try to build a legitimate run game that doesn't rely entirely on Cam. If we have to assume that the coaching staff can't build a real rushing attack without Cam then yes the read option is the only option, but I don't think that has to be the case. We didn't run a ton of read option in 2013 and I think that was the last year our run game was a threat without relying on Cam--Cam's rushing was a lot of scrambles that year rather than designed runs like in 2015. DeAngelo actually ran very well in '13, and we should use McC now like we used D-Will then. D-Will never ran the read option well, that has been Stew's game, and our rushing attack has not been as good with Stew as it was with D-Will even in '13.

It's exactly what I'm saying. In a perfect world we would rest Cam's arm with a solid run game but we are really really bad at it. I rather chip away with a bunch of short passes. We actually have the personnel to do it this year. It's also safer for Newton to scramble than to rush.

It's because we were in cap hell and had no money. Kalil is terrible at run blocking and Williams is just as bad. Read option would work but not when trying to protect Cam's shoulder. Scrap it and simply. Use options with McCaffrey, Stewart, and Samuel. Add screens and short passes. FYI we have done this but Shula always ditches it for pounding Stewart.

Except we don't run the read option that much anymore...a few plays last game and that was it. When we did run it it worked

I haven't numerically broke it down but we run it quite a bit and yes better than a simple iso but not good enough to gain yards on good defenses. No matter what we run through our oline sucks at run blocking. We are better just abandoning it and using the pass to losen up the coverage.

either run blocking gets better, or one of the wr's is going to have to make opposing defense play for stacking the box, funchess so far has been doing a good job lately

When we pass we gain yards. I mean we convert 2nd and 11 easily and consistently. What if we didn't have to dig out of those holes. Passing is not our problem. Our commitment to trying to be a running team is. Newton will gain his yards no matter what. The best thing about Chud was he knew when the run game didn't work you start firing out of shotgun till the defense respects the pass. Even then Rivera was having a hissy fit he want using the run game enough yet he put up 35 points every game.

    • Would Morgan or Beason have been HOFers' if injuries hadn't derailed their careers?  I was not a close watcher of the game when Morgan was in his prime but I thought Beason had a few seasons at close to Lukes' level of play.
    • Franchise QBs feast when things are rolling and the tide that raises boats when things are going sideways.  Bryce isn't that. He's a complimentary player, that's it.  When the defense and STs are on point, he plays loose and it shows.  When we are in a dog fight and things haven't gone our way, he struggles.  It's that simple. He's not a horrible QB, but he's not top tier either.  So the question begs, is this worthy of a second contract?  The answer should be no.  It definitely is my answer. Bryce will never be a QB that can produce wins largely on his arm.  That's a FRANCHISE QB, any other QB is simply a placeholder at the starter's position until that guy can be found.   At some point the excuses of lack of weapons will be a straw man.  Heck, it's nearly there now.  I mean if he doesn't look even better than last year will we blame it on the TE position?  'Well if Bryce only had a player like Kelce, Kittle or Gronk on this team...'  Are we really going to do that?
    • When I arrived at college, I was 18, not too much younger than some of these draft picks.  It was not a huge school, but there were guys on the team who were 21, 22, 23....playing ahead of me.  I was seventh on the depth chart.  Those guys have been through a few seasons, were stronger, more knowledgeable.  I was a better raw player than some of them, but those other factors matter.  As I grew stronger, more familiar with the playbook, and learned what it was like to play in college, I gradually improved and with that, I rose up the depth chart.  It took most of my freshman year for the light to come on.  Had the coach thrown me into the starting lineup day 1, I would have probably failed.    And that was college.  So I agree with you based on my experience on a much lower level.  Frankly, I think that is why so many kids drafted to fill huge gaps bust.  The teams are desperate.  Anyone who looks to fill vacancies in the starting lineup through the draft is desperate.  You draft depth to develop.  For this reason, I say, "Let Walker start for a while."  Maybe Brazzell can be our WR 4.  Throw Hunter into a rotation and ask him to do one or two things.  Freeling needs some strength and he needs to work on run blocking.
