That spider has body charactristics of a type of crab spider not a wolf spider. I grew up catching many types of spiders most of my life.

It's too big to be a crab spider. It's a wolf spider in hide mode. They flatten out there body's like that. I can see why you would think that with the angle of the legs.

Hogna Carolinensis to be exact. Definitely a female wolf spider. Light brown joint banding on all legs, discernible chelicerae. Most likely ready to overwinter and was surprised by the box being opened. @Snake is correct imo
