not good

Ouch.

Looking back, I can't help feeling like we stopped "evolving" after the first few games and just went back to the same old things we'd been doing, which led to the same result (i.e. needing Newton to bail us out at the end of games in order to win).

How much "evolution" did you see?

So in about a million years or so we'll have a competent offense?

I don't think Shula can change for the better, and he showed no evidence of it this year. But as far as criticizing him for not having an offensive evolution in one year, while the QB missed a ton of camp and relying on a rookie as a key piece, is fairly ridiculous.

Still had three months of a healthy Newton to work with.

And even that doesn't explain why we're running what Riddick called "training camp day one" pass routes.

But this has nothing to do with "evolution." This is play design. You're arguing micro while evolution is macro. I've never once tried to praise Shula for anything on the micro level. Because it's flat out horsesh*t. And I don't think his strategy on the macro level is anything amazing, earth-shattering, or to write home about. Simply average probably. And when you're a play caller being terrible on the micro level, no matter how great the overall strategy, doesn't cut it. I'm 100% for getting rid of Shula. But to try to criticize him for lack of "evolution" within 1 season is unfair.

And as far as the routes against the Falcons go... I'm not so sure that wasn't intentional in order to not show our hand before the playoffs... I really hope that it wasn't, because it's dumber to not gameplan for a huge game for that could be (and wound up being) for the division or even the 2 seed. But I don't put it past Ron to go into week 17 trying to not put what they're doing on film. Stupid, but Ron does a lot of stupid things like that.

I don't put the lack of evolution on Shula.  I put it on Rivera.

Oh, if evolution were but a simple, straight and unbothered line --- amoebae to homo extremis in 30 generations and lasers by day 5.

Evolution has never been about the leaps and bounds but by the dogged trial and error mixed with an unwillingness to give up on tomorrow.

We've had a lot of growing pains (and a lot of serious injuries to boot) but somehow the team put together 11 winning performances, some against some very strong play-off teams. We may fall flat at the start of the post season, we may stall out somewhere along the way, or we might just hoist a trophy in our battered, weary hands at the end of all this.

I've got faith in them, I still believe, how about you?

Shula is incapable of evolving. He might change a little, but it will be lateral movement at best. He’s awful. He’s been awful at every point of his career. He’s too old of a dog to be learning new tricks. And Rivera doesn’t want to evolve. He’ll pay lip service, but he’s too gd stubborn in his ways. Probably the military upbringing.

    • You're assuming just as well.   Morgan and Canales were hired 3 days apart.  I believe it was partially due to their connections in Seattle.  i believe Tepper wanted some familiarity with his GM and HC.  It is so easy to sit back and arm-chair QB over draft picks.  You don't know what the philosophy was going into the 2024 draft.  I believe Canales and Morgan were drafting for the future.  XL and Brooks point to that philosophy. Name me one GM that is 100% on draft picks.  Just one.  You're not going to find one.    I think year one picks weren't for what can you do for me now but Potential.   XL hasn't lived up to the hype of a 1st rounder.  I think we all can agree on that. However, there still is hope he comes around.  What I believe they saw in him was his speed after the catch.  He needs to get more consistent but when he gets the ball you kind of hold your breath just a second because if he gets free, he's gone.  The Brooks pick was a signing for the future, and no one could have guessed he would re-injure the same ACL.  This makes the pick look bad but Dallas was ready to draft him later that same round.  IMO we'll have to see what happens next season before we can call this a bust. Wallace has improved each season and for a third rounder has done well.  Sanders has shown flashes and considering the pick in the 4th round it wasn't a bad pick.  His sophomore season IMO was a little bit more productive.  Smith-Wade has been a good addition and has played well.  For a 5th round pick to get as much playing time as he has.  Most picks below round 3 should take a couple of years to get up to speed.  He's been a decent player.  Crumedy, no comment We turned Barrett into Jackson.  This was an amazing move and basically got a starting CB for a 7th round pick.  Pretty shrewd if you ask me. Coker, maybe the best Free Agent signing of the 2024 draft class. So, in short, you can't say that the draft was a bust.  It isn't a home run but all but one are still on the team and outside of Brooks have made contributions to wins.  2025 draft class has been much better with almost every pick making contributions this season.  Now take Fitterer's two years and compare them to Morgan and tell me that they have the same philosophy.
    • He hasn’t led crap, he’s on loaded teams and a piece of the puzzle. And he’s he has improved drastically but it took the ultimate QB whispers in Shanahan and KOC. You put him on this Panther team and he’s back to normal Darnold
    • Slavin and Jarvis week to week. Florida cheap shots took out our two best players.  I’d start KK so he can beat the brakes off someone.
