Funch, Byrd and Samuel. Need a real #1. Samuel needs to beef up and be able to handle the physicality of the NFL. He is so fragile. He is worthless to us if he is always on IR

Crabtree, Dez fits the bill and they are realistic options.

I think we're actually pretty close. I'm fine with Funchess at one outside starting spot, Samuel in the slot, Byrd at the 4, and Clay as a return man and #5. We desperately need another outside starter to pair with Funchess.

I agree.  If you had another quality outside starter everyone else would fall in place.  I don't care if you want to call him a #1 or #2.  Personally I would look for someone with some deep speed, to help keep the defenses honest.

Question becomes do you try to find it in the draft or FA?  I don't see us spending big money in free agency and then also spending a high draft pick (1st or second round) on one.

one outside receiver: Funchess

other outside receiver:  FA (upper tier) or draft pick (1st or 2nd round)

Slot: Samuel and Byrd

back up outside receiver:  Cheaper free agent or lower draft pick

That puts us at 5 receivers

If we carried 6 someone with some special teams ability would be nice, and Clay would be fine.

For years?

The kid was as raw as they came out of college. He’s learned a full route tree and added weight during his time here. He’s done exactly what he’s needed to do from day and has progressed nicely.

Not to mention he has the softest hands on the team

I was talking in general when I referred to years.

Byrd showed some flashes, but let's not go overboard. Samuel flashed also, and is a better route runner from the relatively little I've seen from him.  There is a reason why Samuel was electric in college and a legit day 2 prospect. There was also a reason why Byrd was a UDFA.  I'm not saying Byrd can't develop into a legit receiver, but no way that anyone can tell me with a straight face that he is better than Samuel based upon basically one game.

Byrd’s hands >>>>>>>> Samuel’s hands.

Byrd is the better WR right now. Draft slots have nothing to do with it, Byrd has been around now long enough and has progressed every year.

Samuel was the “big play” college dude without any big plays and that’s exactly what we got this year. He was literally one of the last names I wanted to hear called for us.

Everyone knows what hppened to Samuel this season, so to try and insinuate it;s because he desn;t have the talent in the league to be electric is somewhat disingenuous.

You keep saying his hands are better, but I don't believe you have any evidence to support it.

Well you can keep thinking that. I’ve gone over this numerous times.

Samuel fights the ball and isn’t a natural hands catcher. Byrd has soft ass hands. I really don’t know what else to tell you.

Samuel’s route runner definitely improved as the season went along as I’ve also stated that before.

These two are a decent 3&4 combo it’s the 1&2 combo we need to focus on

And I’ve watched a poo ton of Samuel at OSU, I don’t just base what I’m saying off of a handful of pro games

A novel concept may be to put our WR core in a position to have to earn spots instead of writing them into them.

We tried to push Funchess into a #1 target role, when he should have to earn his #2 role. That’s the only way we get better and force guys to play better. There should be no room for a Byrd AND Clay. That’s a big part of why we are bad in this core.

Its not time to have ENOUGH weapons. It’s time to have an ABUNDANCE for Cam. I think we need to get FA veteran AND draft a top receiver. We set Cam up for present and future. Both need to be #2 receiver caliber and, you let them and Funchess battle it out. Samuel will battle for #3 or become #4, and Byrd rounds it out as our developmental youngster.

This is what real teams who care about the passing game due. You survive injuries to any of them and maintain balance.
