I would not be surprised if we have some overseas folks bidding on the team.  There are a lot of rich Chinese, Middle easterners, and other far easterners out there who are looking for some place to park a few billion dollars.

That might be true but Richardson gets to pick who he sells too.  So don't expect any of them.

Just because contracts are signed currently with the Panthers doesn't necessarily mean they have to be honored by new ownership. New ownership could boot anyone they want and just pay out their contract.

Hurneys time as GM is definitely limited. A new owner will want someone of there choosing to run the show along with the new president. I would like to see the new owners construct a dome as well so the Panthers will have a better stadium and more ways to create revenue. BOA is just as old school as the former owner.

So how long does it take to sell a team? What do we expect here - days, weeks, months?

4 months was how long it took the Bill's to be sold. I'm hoping the end of March since Richardson is selling it directly and can pick who buys them.  Owners meeting is at the end of March.  So the owners could vote then.

May would be 4 months.

But Jeremy is thinking July.  Either way it will be before the beginning of the season.

- The team's current lease with the city and Bank of America Stadium expires in June 2019, which has some worried about potential relocation

I believe it is a "Tether" to the city and not a lease.  After 2019 the Panthers own the stadium completely and are not obligated to the city.  If the team leaves before the tether the city can buy the stadium for 1 dollar.

One final note for tonight: Jerry Richardson met with players in the locker room after the game for "an emotional goodbye".

If you're tempted to blame Cam, Luke and any of the other players for talking positively about Richardson in the face of everything that's happened, you probably shouldn't.  They wouldn't have been in a position to see any of the alleged events.

Regardless, the Richardson era of Panthers ownership will end without a Super Bowl victory.  Two appearances, but no trophy.

That and JR has been like a father-figure to many of these guys... would you abandon your father or someone you considered family if he was accused of behaving badly?

Correct, and the city leases the land the stadium sits on to the Panthers for 1 dollar a year.

One of the things that has been ignored in all this new stadium talk is a major reason for the 2.3 billion dollar value of the Panthers is the stadium they currently own. So Sabates argument that a new stadium would be needed to recoup the cost of buying the team is silly when you think about throwing the stadium away that makes up a large portion of what you bought... LOL

I think Sabates is talking out of his a$$. If his group has the winning bid he'll be a minority partner and his opinion on the need for a new stadium ultimately won't matter.

Two important time periods.

With NFL owners having to approve the sale of the team to a new owner. This will take place at the owners meeting.  There are 2 meetings schedule before the start of the new season.

The annual meeting this year is in Orlando from March 25th to the 28th.

The other meeting is the Spring meeting which will be in Atlanta from May 21st to May 23rd.

While I think they could possibly get it done in March.  The May meeting would be more than enough time to finalize the sale.

Thank you! A lot of the value is actually owning the stadium so why bulldoze that said value?!

    • Just another 1st round QB that never paid off for the team that drafted them or traded for them. It's been like this since the SB began. 36 QBs have now won the SB & only 13 of them have been 1st rounders winning with their original team. Namath 1968, Griese 1972, Bradshaw 1974, McMahon 1985, Simms 1986, Aikman 1992, Elway 1997, Roethlisberger 2005, P.Manning 2006, E.Manning 2007, Rodgers 2010, Flacco 2012, & Mahomes 2019. Only 3 have taken longer than 5 seasons as the starter to win a SB.  4  6  5  4  6  4  15  2  9  4  3  5  2 [the years it takes for these 1st round QBs] 5  1  4  1  3  1  1  2  3  4  [10 of the 36 have won a chip with their 1st team that haven't been drafted in the 1st round. These are the years it took them as a starter] What stands out? Only 2 of these QBs have lost their first championship appearance. Elway took 4 years as a 1st rounder & Hurts took 2 years as a 2nd rounder. Of the 10 non-1st round QBs, 2 are 2nd rounders, 3 are 3rd rounders, 5 are 6th rounders or later. Please stop wasting time on drafting 1st round QBs with such a high failure rate. The remaining 13 QBs are traded or free agent signings. Stafford, Favre, Young, Williams and Dawson are the 5 trades. Peyton Manning & Tom Brady also won for teams as free agents on a short stay as well as being drafted. The lesson here is don't waste your franchise on farming up 1st rounders for the league, and steer clear of trading for a franchise QB. Stick to finding that championship QB by drafting them outside of the 1st round or through free agency.
    • I lost most of the respect I had for Fox in 2010. He should have resigned if he hated the job that much. Instead he stuck for his paycheck and let stuff go to hell.    I burned out on Ron too but my deal breaker issue with him was away from football and after he was gone from the Panthers. He may have been out of his depth but never quit on us.
    • From where they were one year ago to now, pretty incredible. I mean, say what you want about Vrabel he is no Jerrod Mayo.
