Drama in Steeler country?

Mr. Scot

Tomlin definitely makes some questionable decisions, like 4th and 1 call in Jacksonville territory but some of their issues are on Ben too. Ben is not what the media makes him out to be.

And again, the coaching pool in the NFL is weak and Tomlin is one of the top coaches. That'd be a gamble, imo. Don't see them doing that.

If they fire Tomlin, which I think they could have cause...I'd throw the bank at him if Wilks got hired elsewhere. He has run a similar scheme in the past and is probably one of the best defensive backs coaches in he game which is desperately needed with our group.

I don't think he's a particularly inspiring head coach. I do think that the Steelers were far and away the most talented team in the league and a first round playoff exit goes on the coaches.

If Ben were to retire in the next 2 years and they were left with the current roster and Tomlin as their coach then I'm honestly not sure they would be a playoff team.

Ben threw for almost 5000 yards with 28TDs and 14Ints. That isn't going to be immediately replaceable when he's gone. Is Tomlin really a good enough coach to take a mediocre QB with this squad to the playoffs? I haven't seen a whole lot of proof of that. I think he's a bottom half of the league coach at managing a game and making pressure-related calls. From the time he got to Pitt he hasn't improved in that respect IMO. He's a heck of a DC though...He wouldn't be out of a job long.

Tomlin's running the 3-4 version of the Zone Blitz (because that's what the Steelers run).  We run the 4-3 version of that scheme.

But Tomlin's background is all in Cover 2 defenses.  A lot was made of that when he took the Steelers job.  It was also heavily discussed that he was only a coordinator for one year before getting the Steelers job (as Wilks would be if he's hired elsewhere).

I watched the Jaguars game. There were many questionable calls by the Steelers. Biggest one was kicking an onside kick with almost 3 min left when they had 2 timeouts plus the 2 min warning. I think Steelers were punched in the mouth by a team they overlooked early and often, and never recovered. Also it was so wierd how Steelers took their sweet time with the no huddle on the last drive with their season on the line.

The Jaguars were the better team overall. They jumped on em early, and then answered every come back with another blow. That was a team playing to win. I think Jags will whoop New England. Heck, we beat New England, and we don't have their defense or even offense.

4X SB Champion and HoFer John Stallworth knows much more than just that than Tomlin does.

Stallworth knows plenty, and they're far from the only ones saying that game was mismanaged.

oh i remind me how many super bowl teams he has coached. anyone can after the fact bs analyze what happened. if they fire him, they deserve to get what comes to them after.

They pretty much had a 14 point turnaround off 1 play. On 4th and 1 at the Jags 39, instead of Ben running for the 1st down, he opted to go for the low percentage deep pass. The Jags got the ball and marched downfield to extend their lead back to 14. Had the Steelers converted, it would've been a different game.

This also is far from the first time Tomlin's situational awareness has been questioned.

Even if you think Tomlin is a great coach, even great coaches aren't necessarily good at every aspect of the job.  And yes, being bad enough at one particular aspect can cause issues.

What's funny is when our HC struggles to manage the clock and does not seem to display he has a plan in crucial moments....we give him a 2-year extension.  Did I say funny?  I meant depressing.

Grass isn’t always greener. Some teams enjoy a lot of success and forget why they have it so well and why.

One of the main reasons that the minority owners listed as a reason Tomlin should be fired is due to the thought that they would be undefeated if BIll Belichick was the head coach. That’s some juvinille fan BS.  It’s fine to say if your a fan having some beers with friends at a bar. But coming from an owner of a team(even a minority owner) is scary.  thoughts like his are part of the reason teams like the Browns are perpetual losers.

NFL moves should be made with a long term range of thought not narrow game by game and reactionary.

If Gruden won with Dungys team the same is true for Tomlin winning with Cowhers team...was the same damn team....and his teams have been dropping off in overall talent...when Ben retires is over they have a bare cupboard with 2 great offensive players and that's it.

Also "but Brady plays in a bad division"

So does Tomlin...hell the Panthers + Rivera and including Shula would win 10 games a season at least in that division...Browns and Cincy.....shiiit.

"oh i remind me how many super bowl teams he has coached" - Not as many as Stallworth

    • More so than the stats it was against that killer defense in their own stadium, the same defense that made Mahomes look like a total JAG in the SB. The way Bryce handled adversity all game was simply phenomenal , the off script play in the end zone, scrambling out of a sack/safety to find XL deep was one of the best plays we have seen out of a Panthers QB on what should have been a game winning drive
    • He’s about to be 0-12 in the conference finals and we’ve been outscored 16-4 in this series after only losing 2 games the previous two rounds and looking really in control of the series. There’s major red flags here as to why he seems so overmatched once he gets to a certain level. There comes a point where “just getting there” isn’t good enough. We are at that point.
    • Listening to the post-game, and holy poo! Has Rod ever said, "this one's on me." When asked about composure, he threw Staal and Martinook under the bus. "Those 2 can't be your best players." Disregarding that he didnt answer the question, does he realize how that sounds to professional athletes? When asked how you prepare for game 4, "I'm not even thinking about that." Clearly, Rod.
