That's the most dead end HC vacancy this year by a good bit.  He'll be back out on his ass in the not too distant future if he takes that job; they have nothing promising on the horizon.

i think taking a head coaching gig with a team that isn't expected to do much is a smart move, especially for Wilks being a first timer. Ownership will have patience with him, and the expectations and pressure to come in and succeed immediately will be pretty low.

Yeah, so long as he doesn't get tossed on his ass as a scapegoat if they go 2-14.

Well, any time you're going to a team that's changing coaches, chances are there's some retooling needed.

Positives though? Arians retired, so you're not following a firing.  And people have generally had a positive opinion of Steve Keim's performance.

Take him, bring back Del Rio, upgrade, profit.

Rivera has all but directly stated that if Wilks gets a new job, Eric Washington replaces him.

The only other option would be Al Holcomb if Washington followed Wilks to his new team. If something happened and both were gone, Rivera has a preference for people he knows well so you're probably looking at someone like Bob Babich.

They have decent core to work with especially his department the secondary.

...how?

Like their offense is mostly injury prone players but they still have David Johnson, and Fitz still has some gas.

Chandler Jones, Patrick Peterson, Budda Baker,  Markus Golden, and Mathieu if he can stay healthy.

They're on the upswing and have a lot of promising and proven talent. They're a QB and some solid skill players away from being the second best team in that division.

I'd take the Cardinals job before the Colts job.

I would love it if Rivera would give Kris Richard a look. I know it won't happen becuase Rivera, but it would be nice.

Bad teams rarely have patience. See the Browns, Bills, or Raiders if you want to argue.
