I mean, assistant coaches have survival and preservation instincts too.

They know what Ron is from working with him (a good man, a mediocre head coach), they see an is-he-or-isn't-he GM situation, they see nothing but question marks surrounding any issue of ownership... as an assistant, it would look to me like a good time to make a move as well.

The odds of Hurney going anywhere, at least for the foreseeable future (2018 season) are very remote. I'm not exactly thrilled about it either, but that's the reality. The only thing up in the air is the ownership situation.

The thing about Hurney is that regardless of what  people think about him, he’ll have a chance this off-season to Prove that he really has grown or if that was just lipservice when he got hired.

So far, he’s done all the right things, but that’s really the easy part. Now we’ll see what he has learned. What does he do with the free agents. Is he going to continue to overpay or will he let them walk if they don’t accept a reasonable contract?  Also, is he going to be able to have a solid draft beyond the first round?

If he does those things well, maybe he actually did learn something in his time away and might not be the trainwreck many are fearing. We’ll  have to wait-and-see though.

Just now, Mr. Scot said:

We'd have to have him under contract for that.  Star is a free agent.

And Hurney at the helm.  Hurney will probably tag him.  Let's hope he nets us a 3rd if he walks (which would probably be the best option) before Hurney decides to make him the highest paid DT in the league.

Maybe a trade could be worked out for Lotulelei?  Norwell is a must keep if at all possible.

While I don't think anyone will argue that Norwell isn't a very valuable player . . . that's kind of the problem.  You just can't afford to have that kind of money tied up in your guards.  You need that money for a tackle.

We'd all love to see Norwell here, but realistically, we need to accept that unless he gives us a huge, huge discount he'll be making the sort of money Turner is next year.  I can't see us tying up 15 mil per season to keep our guards.

Just depends on where they chose to allocate the money.  Paying 2 guards top money is not ideal, no.  But I don't think Norwell will demand top pay unless another team come hard after him.  Atlanta's media is suggesting that the Falcons try to sign Norwell, among a couple of others.   The market will probably put us out of contention if some team throws a big salary at him.

It's possible, but from what I've heard him say so far I don't believe he will.

Arizona *is* a lot closer to Utah.

    • After last season, it was the same question. And the answer most people came to was "If he doesn't make the playoffs, he's gone." He made the playoffs. No matter how it was done, we made it to the playoffs. He's safe. He's going to have a chance to keep working this out, even if next season isn't a playoff one.  I think we'll do better next year than we did this season. There's something being built here.
    • The NBA is a very fickle league. Kon is one of the hottest rookies in years and beyond just his play on the court he is a very steady competitor and that translates to the rest of the team. That has been a glaring absence with the culture of this franchise through the bulk of the LaMelo Ball years that's just being completely blunt and realistic. The enigma of LaMelo Ball is he is entering year 6 and still either red hot or ice cold. We need him to find that sweet spot. Logic dictates the Hornets will want to see this core again next year. But the clock is beyond ticking at this point. It's put up or shut up. Especially considering what the Thunder managed to do recently. I'm hopeful they can keep these wins rolling in and get some much needed playoff experience under their belts which will help substantially.
    • I think as long as the Panthers are competitive with Canales they should keep him. Pepper needs to repair his/the teams image as a place prized free agents aren't hesitant to consider. Just dont do any crazy poo for a few years.
