I know it's popular to try and blame Richardson for Hurney being bad, the Jerry Richardson didn't dictate things like trading a future first for Everette Brown or a future number 33 for Armanti Edwards.

Jerry Richardson may serve to make things worse, but Marty Hurney is bad on his own.

I honestly don't think he's that bad, He's a good drafter. if you look him up before the strike and post you can definitely tell a difference between the two. Both in drafting and FA.

I did look up his drafting and free agent history prior to the strike, back before it happened (likely around 2006 or 2007 or so).

It's why I soured on him.

Seriously. This makes no sense at all without new ownership in place.

Honestly, I'll be surprised if this is anything other than JR working the puppet strings from behind the curtain and giving Hurney a contract that will see him retire well. I just hope new ownership will come in and tear that contract up, write him a check, and then conduct a real GM search.

Hire a new GM now and when new ownership comes in and fires new GM and rehires Hurney.

The "mess" Gettleman left went 11-5.

And Hurney isn't a "step up" from anything. He hasn't had s--t to do this time because everything was done before he got here.

I'm just curious: Do you actually believe the ignorant s--t you post or are you just trying to be a dick?

*sigh*

There's no point in trying to have a rational discussion with you. Your love for Gettleman leads you to resort to name calling if someone so much as even suggests that he wasn't perfect.

Gettleman wasn't perfect, but any suggestion that Hurney was better marks someone as either trolling or clueless.

You tell me...

Neither were good.... That's been my position all along. That being said, Hurney has done well in the short time he's been back. I've stated many times he's not a long term answer but it makes little sense to try to make a change right now before new ownership. I certainly trust Hurney in the draft more than Gettleman. I'm hopeful he can successfully navigate us through this off-season and patch some of the glaring weaknesses Gettleman left us with.

Again, Hurney had nothing to do with building this year's roster.  The only thing he did of any significance was the trade of Benjamin.  Outside of that, the most memorable thing was the dumbassery of keeping two kickers.

As far as the draft, Hurney's best picks generally came because the team he built the prior year was such total s--t that he would up with a high pick. Throw in that this guy you "trust in the draft" traded away future first round picks for guys like Everette Brown, traded away a future first pick in the second for Armanti Edwards and spent the 2010 draft desperately trying to trade up so he could get Jimmy Clausen.

"Oh, but he drafted Cam" and Luke".  Yeah, and despite having the first pick in every round (except, you know, that one he traded) every other pick after Newton was worthless.  Throw in that he got lucky with Luke because he had Mark Barron higher but someone else beat him to it.  Going back further, he also had David Carr over Julius Peppers but, as luck would have it, the league expanded that year.

And if you think we have weaknesses now, you should have been around for some of the prior offseasons under Hurney (it's pretty obvious you weren't).

Why can't you accept that NEITHER were good? Are you related to Dave in some way?  I've been watching the Panthers since 2001 btw but I appreciate your condescending know-it-all attitude.

    • I'm not a Bryce hater and I would 100% move on.  Especially looking at how the upcoming qb draft looks on paper.  Hopefully he continues to improve but if in 3 seasons you're still chasing average season numbers then he's not going to be the guy.  You've just got to keep taking swings until you hit.  Average qbs without any elite physical traits cant get it done anymore.  So this year Hopefully he continues to develop and is above average statistically.
    • Meltdowns???? He was pulled by Canales because he wasn't executing the game plan after 2 games into the season so he could watch Dalton execute the offense and show Bryce the windows available in the NFL, how to push the ball down the field and how to step up and move around when blitzed. When Young came back 5 games later he clearly watched and improved. Enough he was named the future starter. He doesn't have a history of  meltdowns nor is there any reason to assume he will have one. From what I have read he is mentally strong and emotional stable. He may have bad games down the road, everyone does. But this is all a learning experience for him and so far he seems to be making progress. I can understand being hesitant on anything Panthers, but Young has surprisingly been able to gain his confidence after a disastrous start. You aren't alone in being cautious but I think he is the future. I thought he was too small and too short to succeed in the NFL. Honestly I was pleasantly surprised last year and am optimistic about the offense for the first time since Wilks and Dalton were decent.
    • The Rams wanted to trade up for Williams who they ended up within the end. They even told him that when they called him to let him know he is the pick. The other teams are only an assumption. Like the Cowboys, who took a guard. The truth is the team wanted to trade down first and foremost but couldn't get an offer the were happy with. They took McMillan because they felt he was bpa at 8 plain and simple.
