These unfounded rumors/concerns about the Panthers leaving Charlotte just provides the NFL and any new billionaire owner with the ammunition needed to bend local and state taxpayers over a barrel.

Which is a lose/lose situation for the fans.  Don't pay they move, pay and we are fuged forever because it will be a money pit sucking the tax payers dry.

Charlotte and the region have done a great job supporting the Panthers and the NFL.

The region continues to grow at a rate equal or greater than most of the country in large part to a reasonable cost of living, moderate weather and easy access to the mountains and beaches.   It is a nice perk to have the Panthers, but they aren't a crucial part of what makes the region a great place to live.

As much as I love watching NFL football and supporting the Panthers, if the new ownership comes in thinking they are going to pass along the cost of doing business to the local taxpayers, I'd tell them to take a hike.

It woud be so silly to move out of one of the fast growing cities in the country. Give the new owner his new stadium here to keep them. I couldnt handle them leaving town. I quit on basketball when George Shinn took the Hornets away. I couldnt deal with the Panthers leaving .

I know I mentioned this in a previous thread only got input from Mr. Scot, but does anyone else think the minority owners are going to make a run?

Part of me hopes not.

If they're their own people, fine.  But my worry is that a current minority owner might be on board with keeping Richardson's policies intact.  Potentially even working on the sly with Richardson himself.  That'd mean, among other things, keeping Marty Hurney as GM.

Lets be realistic.

99% chance the team stays

99% chance the new owner trys to screw taxpayers into subsidizing them a shiny, new, (unnecessary) stadium.

50% chance the state bends over.

100% chance that ticket prices will go up significantly whether the city pays for a stadium or the owner does it privately.

Hate to say it but most likely the next couple years will be my last with season tickets.  It will be bad enough when the city subsidzes a new stadium, but the fact they will hike prices to pay for the rest so they can keep getting richer is worse

I had noticed that Goodell didn't say anything definitive as well which made me a little uneasy. However, I do think the city is willing to do whatever to keep the Panthers in Charlotte. Next week shall be interesting but I hope whoever the next owner is that they work with the city in staying here. Also, hope the other owners want the Panthers to remain here as well.

Because he can't.  Legally, teams have the right to apply to move to another city, and the NFL can't deny that right.  However, in order to move, they need 24 votes to approve it.  So, the only way Goodell could say definitively that the NFL will not allow the move is to admit that the owners have gotten together and already made the decision, which would be collusion...and illegal.

The most the NFL can do is say that they don't believe there would be enough votes to pass the move, which is what Kraft essentially said today in a related statement.  Basically, between Goodell and Kraft, the NFL was telling prospective owners that the team will be staying in Charlotte for the time being, and relocation is not an option right now.

I believe it is very unlikely that the Panthers are moved.  That being said, opinions or statements that it is absolutely not possible are foolish.

All it takes is the owner that wins the bidding to be purchasing the team with the intention of moving it, similar to what happened to Seattle (NBA) a decade ago and is currently happening to Columbus (MLS).

The fact is that with no expansion on the horizon this is a closed system.  That means the only way for a city to get a team is the purchase and steal another.  What beter situation than to buy one without a long lease to negotiate out of?

I believe it will all work out but there is a part of me that will feel uneasy until this is over and things are settled, because while I do not think it will happen it is absolutely possible.

yeah...I equate this to McDonalds coming to your seedier side of town and wanting to build if the neighborhood will pay for it.

what's the old saying? You gotta spend money to make money. well spend and stay and so will the fans.

I know one thing. If the team movies I'm out.  I'm only rooting for the Carolina Panthers.

I live in Richmond, Virginia and still do all I can to get to a game every season. If they do move, and it’s even further away, I don’t know how I’ll be able to continue to root for them. The idea that I’d never be able to watch my team play except as a road team in DC, ATL or Baltimore makes me physically ill. This sucks.
