A chance that Norwell stays?

We aren’t tagging him. Norwell would be crazy not to accept the tag for one year get $5M extra and then get another big bonus payment in 2019.

This tweet means diddly. Of course there’s a chance we resign him. He’s not on another team yet so always a chance.

Oh, he'd sign that tag in an instant. Kevin Zeitler has the highest per year average of all the OGs in the NFL and it's $12M. Norwell would make $15M+ next year on the tag.

Kalil, TD  are retiring after this season & if you cut other old vets like: CJ , J-Stew, Adams, Dickson, Jones etc you will free up plenty of CAP space.

It's not about this year, or the next, it's the next 5 that I think about.

Norwell is staying along with Star

The fact Kalil is retiring means that Norwell will take over his veteran core status & cap money.

Kalil is good for 2018 season, Panthers are gonna phase it out not DG it.

DGing it would be asking Kalil to go for a ride and then throwing him out on the highway going 70 mph.

I mean you can part with old and expensive players....and not do it the Dave way.

Lord knows I'm fully in favor of offensive linemen getting paid.

That said, anytime you're investing large portions of your cap into just a few players, it's not good.

My issue with this one...and I don't think my eyes are lying to me.

I can see that both Norwell are Trai are really good, however, where is the amazing inside run game that should be there?  And why can teams still mess us up with inside blitz's?

Now the easy answer is Shula...but to have that much tied up in G's, when we can't consistently run the ball is a bit troubling.

This. DG usually made the right decisions on vets IMO, he just lacked tact in the way that he did it. Especially considering that this was an organization that had been ran very differently in the past so the players in the locker room had certain expectations. You can make the tough business decisions and not be a complete dickhead about it.

I think a lot of it was scheme and play calling. I mean, if we as fans can sit there and know that we're going to run the ball, you can damn well guarantee that opposing DCs can not only know we're running the ball but they probably know exactly where we're most likely to try to run it.

and I'll see your THIS with a THIS

agree 100%.  Dave's issue wasn't his decisions (outside of Norman), it was how he carried out those decisions.  Take 89.  I believe parting with 89 was the right call.  Right time and place for the break.  89 would have been ticked regardless but instead of an annoyed 89 Dave threw gas on him and gave him a match.

The Panthers have already done this with Cam, Luke , Olsen, Kalil bros, Addison, TD , to lesser extent CJ and Stew

Our cap would look alot healthier if we the Kalil bros were actually paid according to their availability/performance. R.Kalil is old and injury prone and he has a 10 mil cap hit lol. Id say the only players that actually deserve their expensive contracts are Luke and Cam.

We are paying alot of money to most old players with declining skills and availability

Maybe it is possible now that Kalil has said for sure he is retiring for next year

I said that we needed to cut Kalil to make room for Norwell.  Go with the youth thats a stud vs a old guy thats about to retire and missed 50% of the games the last 2 seasons.

With Kalil for sure gone after this year, maybe they can go light on year 1 of a norwell extension with Kalil still on the books.  Then a littler heavier then next 2 with Kalil off the books

Yeah, I don't think Star wants to be here. I don't think he wants to be on the east coast period. He doesn't strike me as a guy who is all about the money and that's it. He'd probably take less money to be closer to family. It is what it is.

Addison is worth his contract.

I love TD to death and I'm very happy as a fan that he's still a Panther, but from a football perspective, when we drafted Shaq that should've been the writing on the wall for TD. You have to capitalize on players while they're on the rookie contracts and relatively cheap. We have done way too much stockpiling of talent with 1st round picks and gotten pretty damn poor return on those picks simply because they're behind better, more experienced players on the depth chart.

I agree, to an extent.  But our run game has been bad since 15...now maybe it was totally on scheme and predictability, but again...lot of money going to "run blocking" O linemen, when our run game has been awful.
