Mayock suggests a certain kind of receiver

he is just going by Norv Turner and the Coryell offense

big receivers and strong running game has been the history

sound familiar?

the problem is we have neither, besides Funchess being the sole "big receiver"  . We cant keep relying on Cam to be our primary threat on the ground or he wont make it past 33 in NFL career

Why would Mayock think this? The two biggest WR seasons for the Panthers under Cam were both by Steve Smith. Ginn was our leading WR in '15. Ginn and Brown were #2 and #3 in '16. CMC led the team in receptions last year.

Cam has shown plenty of ability to utilize smaller, faster receivers and the "twin towers" experiment has already failed.

Anthony Miller is a baller, not tall, but can catch, run routes, chip on his shoulder, elusive and finds the end zone. Could be there in round 2 late or 3rd

I have been looking for a different kind of WR, but I like St. Brown (NDame) in the third ....

I like him quite a bit as well.  But his 40 will be huge in determining where he goes.  If he runs between a 4.45-4.5 (I'm expecting about 4.49), then he will be no worse than a 2nd round pick, and maybe even slide into the late first if he tests well and has a good pro day.  But if he runs anything slower than that, he will probably be a 3rd-4th round pick, depending on just how much slower.

If I had to guess, I think if we want him, we'll need to use at least our 2nd to get him.  Tall, athletic receivers with good hands, route running, and speed don't last long.

Plus you can't beat that name...

Yeah I was thinking that Mayock might be giving in to old bullshit thinking about Cam's lack of abilities that are largely media driven. Not saying that he's necessarily aware of it, but that he may be subconsciously limiting Cam's game based upon limited thinking about Cam's talents.

3rd round is about as low as I would go with a receiver.  Anything past the 3rd round and you aren't going to get much production out of him unless he is a hidden gem.

Turner's offense needs someone NOW, not in a year or two.  If your not targeting a receiver in rounds 1-3 you need to just pick one up in Free Agency.  Someone who can contribute now.

i do, as well, enjoy listening to Mayock over most of the other talking heads.  He seems to have a better grasp of their abilities as an NFL player vice what they did in college.

Imo the whole expecting rookie Wr getting consistent production is a major crap shoot even with 1st rounders.  That 2014 class was unreal and highly uncommon..

With the way our WR Corp is right now.. A questionable 1 or 2 option and a bunch of ?.I don't think adding another project is going to work for now... I really hope we go the FA route for established Wr's..

Wish we kept Benji instead of Funchess

Benji has a very unique skills and abilities that are rare. He can box out guys and go up and get a ball.

Funchess is tall but has no jump ball ability. He plays small

should have kept Benji for the physical precense and surrounded him with speed

But that is under the assumption it was a either or situation.. Plus to be honest there is always going to be a question  about KB condition and weight.. With his size and how easily he can put on pounds .. He would need a Cam like commitment and life change to keep the weight off.. And I don't know if KB has that in him to do...

Imo we kept the right 1...

    • Alright. I think the Charlotte Hornets are officially at capacity with the current number of white players on the roster. 20240912_221847_1.mp4
    • The Miller trade is for a 2026 first round pick. (Not sure if Dallas or Canes own)
    • right?  they have a choice to to choose to make absurd money playing a game.  a team has the right to protect themselves if the highly paid athletes like to dabble in say motocross in the offseason and to discourage that type activity.  I mean, Mahomes can still go play pickup ball all offseason.   He doesn't go to jail or get cut.  But if he gets hurt.....it impacts his money.   So he is discouraged from doing it....which IMO makes total sense.   XL is basically a bona fide country kid with money.  That means ATVs, horses, and all sorts of fun.   I think the Panthers should discourage his risky fun.....just like with anyone else.  ATV accidents happen all the time.  You know why XL was so eager to help and was helpful? Because is clearly an ATV guy.  Our hero didn't stumble across some stranger stuck.  They were messing around as country folks do.
