Could Equanimeous St. Brown be Norv's Vincent Jackson?

Frankly, I think drafting WR early is stupid.  Everyone is writing off Samuel?  Byrd?  All we need to do is replace Sheperd with a quality veteran.

Funchess, a good free agent, Samuel, Byrd, and another solid player (developmental OK) is all we need.  Draft a top WR, and you have Funchess + three unproven players.

I saw signs of Samuel and Byrd looking like the slot is covered.  A free agent X WR is what we need, imo.

I think everyone wants to pick up a WR in the draft and FA is bc most don't trust Samuel/Byrd with injuries. The rookie WR can be our insurance for either Samuel/Byrd.

I think we add one of these WRs:

  • Sammy Watkins

  • Jordan Matthews

  • Terrelle Pryor

  • Paul Richardson

  • Marqis Lee

  • Mike Wallace

  • Taylor Gabriel

If we do that, we will probably not draft a WR early.  I doubt anything before the third round.

I agree FA WRs is the way to go but I also think in addition to the FA we will pick up a WR in the draft but not in the 1st 2 rounds. I think we will probably go defense in the 1st and maybe RB in the 2nd.

Sure looks like an elite RB will be there in second. When I look at Marty's draft history, DT and WR scare me.  Marty will draft safely in the first--it is his MO, and then blow the second rounder--also his MO.  So, since RB is a fairly safe pick (especially in this draft), I would be OK with it.

"Stupid" is much too strong of a word.  You may not agree with it,  but it's just a matter of philosophy, situational team building, and is dependent upon the actual results of free agency.

You've said it yourself that you believed that Mike Wallace will be the actual target.  As such,  you should understand that he would be a likely Band-Aid for a situation that really needs a long term solution.  He is getting long in the tooth.

You must also realize that any receiver that we bring in will most likely have an injury history to add to Samuel and Byrd. Do we really want to have no legitimate insurance with all these players that have question marks for one reason or another about their ability to stay healthy? Our last games,  especially the last one, were difficult to watch from the receivers aspect, more difficult than usual. Go down the list of free agents of note and consider their health.  Even Terrelle Pryor,  who some label as a one-year-wonder, had issues last season (and some consider him illegitimate anyway).

Moreover, it could just simply be a case of wanting to upgrade and/or strengthen the entire corps from the bottom up.  We're not privy to everything that's going on.  The notion of Byrd seeing any appreciable playing time on some top tier teams would likely be somewhat ludicrous to most fan bases, if not front offices.

Also,  there's the theory of BPA, which seemingly some Huddlers think has gone on vacation now that Gettleman is gone.  I don't think that it would be "stupid" at all to draft a receiver early if that receiver is the BPA.

And,  lastly,  we've poured considerable resources into the defense lately, and the offense not so much.  Being an actual complete receiving corps has become a near foreign concept. We haven't had one personnel or character-wise in a coon's age.  Constitutionally, our corps has been missing pieces for the better part of a decade.

So, there is a very compelling reason to draft a receiver early,  and I just don't see anything that could be considered anything close to "stupid" about it.

st. brown's overall weight scares me (anothr 10-15 pounds won't hurt)....but his route running and body control is exceptionally fluid for being 6'5".

Was he the one that someone said had sticks for legs?

Seriously, If he hasn't missed any appreciable amount of time, I wouldn't worry too much. He looks like he has the frame to support some more weight,  so I'm pretty sure he will add some muscle once he becomes a pro.

I really hope we aren't looking for WR until the 3rd and after...

It depends on what WR we get in FA.

If we sign a old vet like Wallace, I think it is possible we draft a WR in the first 3 rounds.

If we get a vet WR who can be the guy like Watkins/Martavis Bryant, I think WR is completely off board.

I just don't want to get to the point where we are depending on a rookie development to make this offense work..

I agree, we need a proven vet WR. We need stability at the WR position, tired of Cam not having reliable WR's.
