Upsides and downsides of new ownership candidates

On a tangent....has any new owner moved a team? Seems it's always the long standing ones who do. While we are on the topic of anyone who purchases a team wants to move it to their hometown or home of the most recent steel company their private equity firm invested in.

Stan Kroenke bought full ownership of the Rams in 2010 and moved them 7 years later.

Mark Davis also, if you count him as new.

All of these same things could have and were probably said of Jimmy Haslam before he bought the Browns. It didn't exactly translate to success.

#TeamNavarro  #charlestonStrong. I actually wouldn't be opposed to moving to the team out of Charlotte as long as it stayed in the Carolinas. The tri-county area (Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester) is only a little bit smaller than Charlotte (~700k versus ~820k).

LOL ok

Talking out of my arse here but here’s my knee jerk reactions.

Tepper - Big fear he’s too much of a Steelers homer to ever put the Panthers above them, that’s pretty scary.

Navarro - Can’t beat local ownership.

So...if the new owner is approved at the May meetings....when does he actually become the owner?

As soon as the vote is completed.

Nobody who spends two billion plus on an NFL team is gonna sit there and watch them lose.

I prefer Navarro also, but allegiances will change pretty quickly when 2.5 billion dollars get involved.

Is anyone else worried about Tepper being really stingy with the team?

All indications are that he is fairly frugal with investments (a huge reason for why he made so much money) but when it comes to an NFL franchise, are we going to be complaining about him the same way we complained about Jerry not wanting to spend money?  I could see him wanting to milk the City for every dollar he can get for renovations

@Mr. Scot

Under most circumstances I would agree with that. We all know Steelers fans are some of the most hardened fans in the NFL. Tepper grew up just outside Pittsburgh, and well you know the rest. Just uncomfortable with the idea that the owner would have us as his #2 team.

The NFL is littered with teams that are frustratingly operated as extremely lucrative investments - doing just enough to get by. That 2.5 billion is a fantastic investment, win or lose.

Charleston is my favorite city in the Carolinas but something more central makes more sense. Raleigh or even Greenville. I’m against it leaving Charlotte.

Also not in love with the use of #charlestonstrong here. That’s a really strong hash tag for some really bad stuff Charleston went through and can over come. Using it for a slogan for the city to get an nfl team feels like it cheapens the strength of the message.

    • Just another 1st round QB that never paid off for the team that drafted them or traded for them. It's been like this since the SB began. 36 QBs have now won the SB & only 13 of them have been 1st rounders winning with their original team. Namath 1968, Griese 1972, Bradshaw 1974, McMahon 1985, Simms 1986, Aikman 1992, Elway 1997, Roethlisberger 2005, P.Manning 2006, E.Manning 2007, Rodgers 2010, Flacco 2012, & Mahomes 2019. Only 3 have taken longer than 5 seasons as the starter to win a SB.  4  6  5  4  6  4  15  2  9  4  3  5  2 [the years it takes for these 1st round QBs] 5  1  4  1  3  1  1  2  3  4  [10 of the 36 have won a chip with their 1st team that haven't been drafted in the 1st round. These are the years it took them as a starter] What stands out? Only 2 of these QBs have lost their first championship appearance. Elway took 4 years as a 1st rounder & Hurts took 2 years as a 2nd rounder. Of the 10 non-1st round QBs, 2 are 2nd rounders, 3 are 3rd rounders, 5 are 6th rounders or later. Please stop wasting time on drafting 1st round QBs with such a high failure rate. The remaining 13 QBs are traded or free agent signings. Stafford, Favre, Young, Williams and Dawson are the 5 trades. Peyton Manning & Tom Brady also won for teams as free agents on a short stay as well as being drafted. The lesson here is don't waste your franchise on farming up 1st rounders for the league, and steer clear of trading for a franchise QB. Stick to finding that championship QB by drafting them outside of the 1st round or through free agency.
    • I lost most of the respect I had for Fox in 2010. He should have resigned if he hated the job that much. Instead he stuck for his paycheck and let stuff go to hell.    I burned out on Ron too but my deal breaker issue with him was away from football and after he was gone from the Panthers. He may have been out of his depth but never quit on us.
    • From where they were one year ago to now, pretty incredible. I mean, say what you want about Vrabel he is no Jerrod Mayo.
