Verge's mock draft

Some of the people that don't like Hurst at 24 would probably be happy with Reid at 24.  Then Hurst at 55 would be totally acceptable to them.  Same players, different order, and the perception for some people changes.

I think this is a very astute point and it’s true in my case.

The problem comes in that scenario if we get Hurst but miss both Reid and Bates.

I would rather get by with Greg and draft a TE2 later than miss all the safeties after overvaluing a TE.

I have a horrible feeling that many teams have avoided the FA safeties because they want to draft one. My nightmare scenario. It’s easier for me to justify a reach at starting S than at TE2 right now.

gun to my head my prediction is that first round pick is a CB or a trade down for a team jumping up to take Lamar Jackson or baker mayfield

Mayfield's a top 15 pick. But Rudolph or Jackson, yes.

Trading down could be very beneficial.  Could use the extra picks considering how old this team is.  We need some new blood and start grooming these vets replacements.

I'm thinking this way too. A player at 24 vs. 30-32 or even early 2nd round may not be all that much of a difference (unless someone like Ridley falls which while unlikely is possible) and we could pick up and extra 3rd, or more if a team is desperate for their QB, which would be a big deal. Only issue I have with it though is moving behind the Aints and Falcons.

I say we take what we can get at 24. I'm not moving behind saints or falcons when they could get players we might want just to move back a couple spots and get an extra 3rd.

If we have 3-5 guys that are rated nearly equally there at 24 and no ONE guy that we're locked into then I'd consider it regardless of the division rivals. But yeah if there's just a guy or two we're locked in on then no way I'd risk it.

Completely agree. Stay where we are unless we get an offer that is too good.

Would be happy, but also feel like it could be unrealistic.  Twitter rumors that a few teams like Penny as RB #2 in the draft, so don't think he'll last until 85. Would love both RD 3 picks, though.

Also completely fine with Hurst at 24.  A slight reach, maybe...but if Olsen goes down?  Or retires soon?  Yikes. Cam needs the safety blanket, and Norv will want his TE.

Totally agree.  People are so worried about a rival getting a player you want, but if you have multiple people at the top of your board rated similar your rival might get a player you like whether you are picking in front or behind them.  Mind as well get an extra pick for it.

I think there is going to be some value in the third for some positions we could really use such as G, C, and RB.  Maybe even WR or a developemental DE.

Bo Scarbrough, Mason Cole, Tyquan Lewis, Desean Hamilton, all players that could be there in a third.

Just an fyi, the names he has heard connected to the Panthers in the first are pretty widespread:

Hayden Hurst

Mike Hughes

DJ Moore

Calvin Ridley

Jaire Alexander

Ronnie Harrison

Justin Reid

James Daniels

Anthony Miller

Dontae Jackson

Of those, they seemed 'The most realistic option for Hurst in the first'

Don't kid yourself on the grades of these tight ends, Hurst especially. Two of them have very solid first round grades.
