First Motorcycle

I yelled at Philly for making me look like I was copying him but I'm over it. So I passed my permit test last week and am taking a beginner's course May 12/13th. After that I'll be free to pick out my bike! Right now I'm really in love with the 2018 Indian Scout Bobber. I'm looking for a cruiser with forward controls so if anyone has any ideas or advice let me know! I'm very excited.

How/When to get the best deals?

Gear?

Motorcycle suggestions?

Riding advice?

My budget is 15k tops but I'd like to keep it between 10-12k if possible. I'm 5' 11" 215lbs.

Looking at PhillyB Instagram, he probably is regretting he ever bought a bike haha

The Enfields (Philly's bike) have a certain charm but they're a running joke in the industry when it comes to longevity and quality. (So I've been told)

I'd buy a $1,000 bike and ride it for a couple of months before investing heavily.

A bird to the chest at 60 MPH is a painful thing.

Another avenue I'm definitely considering. Get a cheap used 750cc until I get comfortable.

A windshield will prevent about 99% of those types of incidents.  I learned that I that I needed one the hard way.  It wasn't a bird, but a rock that came out of a truck.  Popped me in the chest.

I love the bobber style bikes. I'm also interested in the Honda Rebel 500. Gonna try out a few different bikes.

I'm with a couple others on this one...same when I talk to folks about boats.

Get something comfortable, fairly reliable, and on the cheaper side that has good resale.  If you like riding, you will know what to buy next, and the first bike can be easily sold.  This also keeps you from making an impulse buy and overspending.

Have you had decent seat time on one?

I like the bobber/cafe racers as well.  Always wanted to build one out of an old cb750 or something.

I'm sure they're fun to ride. I just don't find the ricer look attractive.

    • This play was never designed to go to either DJ or Odunze. The primary read is Burden who is stymied early, with the outlet being Kmet if Caleb doesn't like the option for Burden. Given the situation it's pretty obvious the simple play is to take the free yards with Kmet, or if you want to be aggressive just wait a beat longer for Burden to uncover on his double move. If Moore was ever going to be a viable target in this play then Caleb should have started out reading Odunze to hold the safety in the middle and then coming to Moore, but because he started the snap staring down the right and then came back to the middle late it made it where the safety's leverage remained to the outside of Moore, so he would never have imagined that pass actually being thrown to him in that situation. Realistically DJ's best option in that context is to just occupy the safety to leave a hole open for Caleb to get it to Burden, which is probably why he throttles down vs carrying the safety across.
    • Even with Sonny Styles still on the board I thought it's a no brainer to address the Oline after Icky's injury.  And how can you pass up Fano at 19 given our situation. Then the rest of the draft just kind of made sense with maybe the exception of Klubnik.  But if Canales can fix him and Young goes down. . .I think it's a solid pick. What do you think of this draft?
