Did anyone else want to see “more” while watching D.J Moore’s tape?

Dude i said that he reminds me of Percy Harvin.

And when he did his press conference he compared himself to Harvin and Landry.

Which is fine. I guess they figure Torey can be the pure deep threat on outside. But you can always scheme guys open.

Maybe Moore/Samuel does the  9 route in slot  similar to how  Falcons schemed open Taylor Gabriel. That would be great.

Offensive Coordinators did it with Harvin also when they wanted him to run 9 routes.

Yep I think that’s what Moore will be best at, have him run the post from the slot. Crazy that Moore has 20 pounds on Harvin when both coming out of college. I’d actually like to see Moore lose a few pounds so he can improve his deep speed possibility.

There’s a few cut up games where Moore wins his post route from the slot and with even a decent throw it’s 6. The Michigan State game I know for sure he wins one.

Post (from slot), slant, in and curl imo are what Moore runs best. I think he can step in and be effective from the slot

There’s no debating that D.J Moore easily has the highest potential of any WR in this draft. With that being said, am I the only one who is concerned with how much of his yardage and big plays came from quick catches and screens? Yes, he has special RAC ability which is great, but we already have Samuel, CMC who are mainly short to intermediate RAC guys.. While watching his tape, I just wish he showed more evidence of exhibiting pure wide receiver traits with crisp route running, down the field playmaking ability and high pointing the ball  on a consistent basis which is what this offense lacks most imo

Calvin Ridley was on the board who embodies what a pure WR inhibits (crisp routes, separation, stretching the field, RAC etc). He performed at a high level vs elite SEC competition since he was a freshman but we passed. Only to be drafted by the Falcons with the next pick who have shown the ability to scout the position through the draft and FA at a high rate.

Can Moore be a great WR for us? Of course. But he could also be a Percy Harvin in the NFL who never meets expectations despite crazy athleticism and production is college

I just don’t see Moore as a slam dunk pick like some of you guys.

I suspect Norv and Ron, as well as several other scouts saw him run the route tree we utilize in his visits. The idea is to have someone tough, however I see him more as a Cotchery type than a Steve Smith type. He may run like a running back once he gets the ball but I didn't see any of the mean streak that Smith possessed in him. I'm comfortable with the pick, but I would also like to see more of Byrd this season lined up on the outside so we will see how that goes.

Perhaps having Byrd and Moore lined up outside will open up more room in the 75% of the middle of the defense; this should lead to more opportunities for effective draw plays, screen plays, and give CMC at least 3 to 5 yards to work with before contact.

Buddy , you do realize he had a bum for a qb then he got hurt , then they had another bum come in that was terrible then he got hurt then they had this other bum and he was 5x worse then the other qbs and Moore still put up good #s just watch and see what he does with cam. If he played for a sec school he would have been a top 10 pick

Yeah I've seen some high school QB's that were better than what he had. Now he gets to play with a QB who has been MVP...

Percy Harvin's issue was his attitude and injuries. Just because one guy is vaguely similar to another player doesn't mean they will have the same career. That's completely absurd.

This seems to be one of those classic internet situations where somebody keeps going further and further and further down the line in order to maintain arguing but they've lost all track of reality .

    • I hope you understand that this Anti Bryce thing as you call it is really a pro Panthers thing. I think I can safely use we. We want the best for the Panthers.  As far as this other post saying ‘Anti’ Bryce people do misinformation.. you mean like going all in on “Renfro should have caught” that poorly thrown ball? I guess it was week 1. And calling it a drop. Comical btw.  I wonder, did you call that out or let it slide because it aligned with your agenda?
    • These are great posts with the comparisons and the numbers.   I haven’t lookyat Smity’s numbers since probably the first time he was on the ballot.  But if you watched every week you know what he is. Whatever his yardage or targets numbers were.  He was fuging dominant. I have watched since the AFL days and seen who there is to see. There are many great WRs over the years. GREAT WRs. Smitty is up there in the game of football.
    • Smith is clear cut HOF if you judge what he did by reception. Fitzgerald was a stat padder.    The most Steve Smith was ever targeted in his career was in 2005 (150 targets). The same year he wins the triple crown.    Larry Fitzgerald was targeted more than 150 times over 9 separate seasons. Not once eclipsing 1500 yards in a season.    The over glazing of Larry Fitzgerald going around is way over blown. ARZ was top 10 in passing attempts nearly his entire prime. Steve Smith and Andre Johnson had it far worse and would have surpassed his #s in the same situation.
