I respect your posts, and agree with you a lot, but I am surprised at that... you really think one of these guys could win a game for us if Cam goes down?

I still think Bridgewater is a good option for a conditional 7th. I don't think he will ever be able to regain his starting form, but I do think with his experience he could play and win games for us, especially given his history with Norv.

Not that these guys don't have potential, but neither has thrown a NFL regular season pass before. That seems crazy to me to roll the dice on that with a team coming off 11-5

If the Jets are willing to make that trade, sure. I'd like to see Bridgewater in a game before making a deal for him, though. I thought both guys were decent last night, but I think I'd keep Heinicke simply because he has some time in Norv's offense from his days in Minnesota. If nothing else, he should understand the offense. Based on what I saw last night, which isn't much, of course, I'd trust him as a backup over Gilbert if I couldn't sign anyone else.

They ate him alive on that TD throw he made

smh “cavedweller”is an appropriate name

I'm confused? I said he needs to be with the 2nd string next week. I watched him in college at ODU, have followed him in his NFL journey, and always expected a transition would be needed to get to this level. To me, he actually looks like a viable back-up in this system. If Case Keenum can eventually figure things out, I believe Heinicke is on that same level.

You said defenses ate Gilbert alive. They certainly did not.

Heinicke looked good too and I said that my understanding is he'll play with the 2s next week.

Jesus I just looked at his college stats, how's this for a season:

2012:

398 - 579

68.7% completion

5076 yards passing

44 TD's 14 INT's

126 rushes for 470 yards and 11 TD's

Good lord - dude had 154 total TD's in 4 years.

He was pretty insane at ODU. Took a start-up program to the FCS playoffs every year he could. ODU's downfall during the playoffs was that their defense couldn't stop a true triple option. The games against Georgia Southern were very high scoring.

To me, the upside with Heinicke, along with his familiarity of Norv's offense, is far higher than Gilbert Grape, and whatever is eating him.

Gilbert was extremely inefficient in his play. The numbers don't look bad but his play on the field shows something completely different.

That is an egregious falsehood coming from the fanboy who must've missed Heinicke's first two passes being the worst passes thrown by any QB last night. Look, I get that you're all in on Heinicke and I thought he did well. But you're spewing bullshit about Gilbert. Absolute tripe.

    • You guys are just going to have to accept the fact that Dan Morgan is a mid GM best case scenario currently. I used to have people get very belligerent over defending Scott Fitterer too. And that's not hyperbole. People used to go to bat for that guy like he was blood related. We have a truckload invested in the OL and what do we have to show for it? The whole unit is already banged up including one of our big signings. Even without all that the group has largely take a step back from last year in pass protection. Then you get to the QB room and there's only two conclusions you can make about Dan Morgan. Either he deliberately ignored it two years in a row on his own accord or he took orders from Tepper to do so. Either scenario says he's not fit to be an NFL GM.
    • Frank, ceding control of the defense in no way verifies that Tepper told Canales to bench Young.    It certainly buttresses the idea that Canales would need permission to bench him but that is as far as you can take it.    After that it is pure speculation and it doesn’t make sense.
    • Uhh, okay yes that happened. I didn’t like the pick either I am a 3rd or later RB guy. Always. Actually hated the CMC pick too. Hated the Stewart pick.  No one wants to talk about trading the #39 in that draft and what he did with that.  Got #52, #155, and the Rams 2025 2nd to boot.   The 52 and 155 plus our 142 5th rounder to go up for a Brooks Everyone wants to forget about the 2025 2nd for that Rams trade  which was used to move up for Scourton.  That Rams trade down was a great deal for us.
