Is there a scenario in which we get to keep Byrd?

6 wrs  2 tight ends,  plus armah.  It's not really that hard.  There is absolutely no need for that 3rd tight end.

This.  No one is gonna pick up Manhertz.  PS Vader Laan or Baylis for backup.

I think we need to keep him.  If we can keep Colin Jones on the roster for ST reasons we should be able find a way to keep Byrd.

So you can’t fathom a scenario where we keep a sixth WR as at least a return specialist, but you think it’s a foregone conclusion that we keep 4 HBs?

What do you want from me? I've already changed my mind since I started the thread when I found out that TD won't count as a member of the 53. I think that puts Byrd squarely at #53 out of 53, but that's all it will take.

We have never once entered a season with just 2 tight ends on the roster, at least not with Rivera as coach. The best way to predict this stuff is to look and see how Rivera has set the rosters before. Going with 3 or 4 tight ends and 4 running backs is just what he does.

Byrd will make the team, we're not gonna risk injury to Samuel, CMC, or Moore as primary returners. I see CAP being released, and Hood to the PS as the ''traditional'' 4th HB, meanwhile CMC, CJ, and Barner who could most closely mirror CMC remains as the 3rd back, and can also be the back up returner to Byrd.

If last year taught us anything, it's that you can't have enough quality receivers in a passing league. You also have to consider the absence of Smith next year // cap savings, you don't release a receiver you've developed for this long for nothing.

But to all those acting like finding room for Byrd is an issue -- REMEMBER THAT WE HAD TWO KICKERS ON THE ROSTER AT FINAL CUTS -- AND STILL KEPT 6 RECEIVERS!

Big difference from last year is that we started the season with just 9 offensive linemen and 3 safeties. That number will almost certainly be 10 linemen and 4 safeties this year, I have to think those numbers are almost etched in stone.

Armah has spent a lot of practice time with the TEs.

Ron mentioned that he could change the math at both TE and RB.

Without Armah I'd never suggest only 2 TEs.

Armah is a godsend on this roster, I think. Looks like Norv knows how to use him.

Byrd hasn't had any runs with the first or second teams. He wasn't bad in camp but he didn't do anything special. He's also the third guy returning kicks.

The writing is on the wall, guys.

Who's ahead of Byrd returning kicks?

Moore's looked bad at returns in games.

I agree Byrd's position is a bit shaky, but it's really hard to imagine only keeping 5 WR when we had such a position crisis last year.

“What do you want from me”? You’re being a bit melodramatic lol.

I don’t get how you are basically acknowledging that Byrd would be next in line for an open roster spot when not factoring in TD’s suspension, but also saying you don’t see any possible scenario where he makes the team. Any player on the roster bubble like Byrd has a very realistic possibility of making the team...that’s what it means to be on the bubble.

    • Personally I think he's a nightmare to cover I think linebackers generally aren't fast enough to keep up with him in coverage and cornerbacks don't have the strength to tackle him one-on-one in physically bring them down which would normally lead to a broken tackle or a nasty stiff arm or just bully ball play sure you could find a receiver with comparable speed like Cooper but he's faster than Cooper sure you can find a wide receiver that is the same size but he's probably More powerful than them and a better blocker.  The size speed athleticism package that he is in is completely unique it's easier to say I'd rather have just a big blocker because we've never seen this type of profile before I'm a risk taker I think you would be God blessed if this was there at 19 I think if you can get a guy that's a tight end who immediately becomes the fastest guy on your offense and at the same time that third wide receiver that can stretch and burn defenses over the top that's the perfect what the Panthers need type weapon.
    • I think you're under selling Sadiq. They are two different players in terms of how they win. Loveland is 2 inches taller maybe 5-6 pounds heavier. Comparing his speed to sadiq.. well your comparing a 4.7 guy to a 4.3 guy I'm seeing a guy that can take a bubble screen from the tight end position and turn it into a house call. I'm not saying the guy is a certified home run pick but I don't think there's really a president's for a comparison for this kind of athlete. It's easy to say this doesn't look like Warren or Loveland because we haven't seen guys that fit this profile The closest you might be able to get is Vernon Davis.  He's not as sure far as those guys were but at 19 I think almost everybody is going to have some warts and he's a lottery ticket of could be top 10 in the draft player or could fail I am more of a risk taker I think he fits the athletic profile that could be a homerun, like I said he's almost 40 lb bigger than Cooper and like 4-5 in taller than Cooper so and he's faster. So whatever you think Cooper gives you I think he does that and more. If you want to go with one of the office alignment I can understand that as well but for value as a receiving threat I don't think there's a bigger value at number 19.
    • I’ve haven’t seen anything that says we have interest in Njoku?
