Heinicke? Really? I think Gilbert was waay better... only reason Hein gets a chance is because of the Turner connection.

I'm curious what you base this on. Heinicke looked better in every facet IMO and the stats seem  show it. Gilbert had the only pct in the 50s on the roster

Heinicke is faster and that’s about it. Gilbert has a stronger arm and can make tight throws a bit better as well. Heinicke makes good decisions, though. They both do. Gilbert just got shafted bc Norv wanted his guy.

All of a sudden people are psychics.  When did Heinicke become Norv’s guy to the point he would give him the job no matter what or shaft a better player? You made that statement like you and Gilbert are friends and he told you Heinicke was Norv’s guy.  Be better than that.

I agree they played fairly evenly until Thursday.  Gilbert really struggled though and Heinicke looked smooth in his limited time.  It was close, but Heinicke clearly played better and looked better than a lot of backups teams are carrying into the season.

It's not just faster, he's far more mobile and has better pocket presence.  Gilbert is fine when he has time to throw, but he's a statue that struggles when there is any pressure because he's not good at maneuvering in the pocket.  So, when things break down, we are doomed with Gilbert, but at least Heinicke can buy himself time and have a chance to make a play.

Regardless, I don't think either are our long-term answer for Cam's backup.  We may have to go with one of them, but I wouldn't be a bit shocked to see us make a move for a better option.

Mobility doesn't mean much if the guy follows up escaping pressure by throwing a bad pass.

Gilbert was definitely the better passer of the two.

Limited time? Heinicke played nearly the whole first half. Gilbert got like two series. He’s the one with limited time and he only had a turnover this preseason because was strip-sacked thanks to Blaine Causell. I’d love to know how that constitutes “really struggling,” though. He had a dump-off that was an early give-up on a third down. That’s about the only negative I saw. Heinicke continued showing off his pocket mobility but he also badly, badly missed on several throws.

If you’re gonna ask me to be better, hold yourself to the same standard.

    • Just another 1st round QB that never paid off for the team that drafted them or traded for them. It's been like this since the SB began. 36 QBs have now won the SB & only 13 of them have been 1st rounders winning with their original team. Namath 1968, Griese 1972, Bradshaw 1974, McMahon 1985, Simms 1986, Aikman 1992, Elway 1997, Roethlisberger 2005, P.Manning 2006, E.Manning 2007, Rodgers 2010, Flacco 2012, & Mahomes 2019. Only 3 have taken longer than 5 seasons as the starter to win a SB.  4  6  5  4  6  4  15  2  9  4  3  5  2 [the years it takes for these 1st round QBs] 5  1  4  1  3  1  1  2  3  4  [10 of the 36 have won a chip with their 1st team that haven't been drafted in the 1st round. These are the years it took them as a starter] What stands out? Only 2 of these QBs have lost their first championship appearance. Elway took 4 years as a 1st rounder & Hurts took 2 years as a 2nd rounder. Of the 10 non-1st round QBs, 2 are 2nd rounders, 3 are 3rd rounders, 5 are 6th rounders or later. Please stop wasting time on drafting 1st round QBs with such a high failure rate. The remaining 13 QBs are traded or free agent signings. Stafford, Favre, Young, Williams and Dawson are the 5 trades. Peyton Manning & Tom Brady also won for teams as free agents on a short stay as well as being drafted. The lesson here is don't waste your franchise on farming up 1st rounders for the league, and steer clear of trading for a franchise QB. Stick to finding that championship QB by drafting them outside of the 1st round or through free agency.
    • I lost most of the respect I had for Fox in 2010. He should have resigned if he hated the job that much. Instead he stuck for his paycheck and let stuff go to hell.    I burned out on Ron too but my deal breaker issue with him was away from football and after he was gone from the Panthers. He may have been out of his depth but never quit on us.
    • From where they were one year ago to now, pretty incredible. I mean, say what you want about Vrabel he is no Jerrod Mayo.
