Talking football with Tepper

highlights for me.

“You have to incorporate modern ideas,” Tepper said. “I just want to make sure analytics are applied. I don’t want human biases to alter what we think is correct or not correct. There is an openness to it here, which is good.

“Those first-down passes,” Tepper said. “I’m real focused on analytics, and we hadn’t really done that before. I loved the mix of plays. The first down passing was a new look for this team.”

“Steve Smith was here the other day and I talked to him before he was on the practice field,” Tepper said. “I understand that. When you look at the history of this team, you look at people you would put in that Panthers Hall of Fame. Smith would certainly be one.

“I have great respect for how stupid I am,” Tepper said. “To the extent I think I have a good opinion about something, I’ll make it known. To the extent I don’t, I won’t.

wise people always know what they know and what they don't.  and when they don't know something, they find people who do know about it.  no surprise he's as successful as he is.  i couldn't be more excited to have him as my favorite team's owner.  the future is looking bright for panthers fans.

I see some on here discussing the PFT report are worried about owner interference.  FYI: This is the article that PFT was referencing, and it's worth checking out the last paragraph.

“I’m trusting these guys. People have a job to do, and I like letting people do their jobs.”

I don't see Tepper being his own GM like Jerry Jones or anything to that level.

I do see him keeping a close eye on how well the people within the organization do their jobs.

I don't disagree with anything he said but do we want our owner having a say in our play calling?  And I don't mean a friendly suggestion we mix it up a bit more, even a blind person could have observed that.  If he is going to run the football side of things himself I hope he's a fast learner.

I love the fact that we're throwing more on first down.

I equally love that the owner actually noticed that we're throwing more on first down.

The big takeaway from that is that he's paying attention to the details.

We threw lower % than our season average in 2017. Somebody isnt paying attention to details

Remind me. Who was it that said that again?

Tepper noted that the Panthers called more passes on first down in Week One than they typically did in past years, and he said analytics had shown that’s a wise approach.

“Those first-down passes,” Tepper told Panthers.com. “I’m real focused on analytics, and we hadn’t really done that before. I loved the mix of plays. The first down passing was a new look for this team.”

So you want us to believe that you know more about the team than the owner? Yeah sure :eyeroll:

Also worth noting that we've actually played more seasons than just last year.  Were you watching those years?
