The kickoff at the end of the game

He kicked it off.  I remember OBJ was standing almost on the end line to catch the kickoff...and I agree, it was way too close and I think if the last dude had waited a bit more to have his guys catch up, they had a few pretty good lanes with OBJ waiting to get the ball back.  Way too close at the end.

Yeah I was there, there was room on their sideline, if they wouldn’t have dropped the lateral, it may have been returned. It was a close one for sure. This may be a dumb question, but with one second left, why not onside it up the middle? By the time they recovered it, one second would have surely run off the clock right?

Fun Story, the Roanoke, VA Fox Affiliate cut to a commercial with 11 seconds left in the game as Gano was trotting out and then next thing you know the Eagles - Vikings game came on. I was beyond pissed.

fox/the NFL have some dumb rule where they have to show the kickoff of the double header if you're out of the local market or something like that.  people all over the non-carolinas/NY viewing area for the game were talking about it.

I listened on the radio, all I could think was "OK, just onside kick it, that will eat a second", but he kicked it deep for some reason.

That’s what I was saying as well. Would it have taken a second if a giants player fell on it or would they count it the same as a kneel down in the endzone? When they kneel it, it usually never takes one second off. An onside up the middle surely would have done the trick right?

too close. that game was bad for the ol' ticker. glad I didn't see that part. more than that, i'm glad they got stopped. would have been a nightmare to find out that we had lost like that and no one saw it happen.

I'm trying to imagine the level of rage there would have been if we all signed off thinking we won and then later found out we lost, and lost like that.

You would have seen a meltdown of biblical proportions on here. Heck, it gives me a chill just knowing that it happened, even knowing the outcome.

Squib it or kick it out of the end zone, for sure. For the love of all that's holy, don't kick something that's returnable.

Gano could have gone from hero to goat in a hot minute.

What about an up the middle onside? Something where we lineup like we will kick it deep and then he does a 10 dribble up the middle. Heck, maybe one of our guys could have fallen on it

I understand the short kick.  I'm wondering if an onside kick would have worked better in that situation.  They wouldn't expect it or have practiced anything for it...hard to return for a touchdown when the ball is bouncing off the ground.

    • Even all the rookie QB's who haven't played a single snap ranked above him? I really hope Bryce is using all this as motivation in some capacity. Because if this doesn't motivate him I don't know what will.
    • Of course. That’s what I said. Bad goalie play and the style of defense. Florida played amazing.  Rods decision to stick with a struggling Freddie cost us. Plus, Florida may be more talented than us and they play a very heavy game. Something we don’t do well minus Svech.  Glad the rangers lost.
    • You should because before the preseason fiasco and the start of the season fiasco, all the reports, including Frank’s responses, were that Fitterer and Reich were in lock step. Remember the press conference where Fitterer talked about both he and Frank saying who they wanted before and after the draft process and that they both picked Young and it was glorious? People got hung up on Tepper saying the point guard analogy in April when Brown was interviewed by a Panthers reporter describing how a QB needs to be a point guard in huge detail. That was in February. I think Tepper was just parroting Brown to make himself look like he knew what he was doing. Mrs. Tepper hugging Bryce always overshadowed CJ saying how he called her Mama Tepp. We fuged up as a team, probably more so because Fitterer always said he had Young as his #1 the year before, probably because we looked at all the QBs that year as well. Reich’s love for CJ started when he got on the hot seats for frankly doing a horrific job. He's been in the league a long time and has a lot of media friends and that was a face saving CYA which we know well with many years of Hurney. Still amazing to think how much better the team was under Rhule/Hurney before Fitterer got any control when Rhule was on the hot seat.
