I do agree, Turner called those plays.  However, I am pretty sure Rivera said something like "We need to burn some clock here".  The problem was, we weren't yet in the right situation.  At the 20?  Ok, yea, let's burn some clock and collect some Seattle TO's.  But seriously, at the Seattle 40?  Nah, let's drive that crap in until we are at less than an extra point worth of distance and THEN burn some clock.  Better yet, let's score a TD and force Seattle to drive the field *and* finish with a TD.

You're right, don't burn clock, give Seattle the ball back with 2 time outs and 2:30 to go in the game after punting and them getting the ball on the 25 with the game tied. SMART IDEA!

As soon as Cam ran that 3 yarder up the gut, I turned to the seahawk fan behind me and congratulated them on the win.  He thought I was nuts - I told him I had seen this too many times.  I told him we have a coach that plays not to lose and most times thats exactly what we end up doing - losing.

Funny thing is that we did exact same thing to end the half - trying so hard to burn the clock instead of scoring TD's.  Really? 1st and goal and no shot into the end zone?

So worried about leaving time on the clock - gimme the 7 and then hope the D can hold/slow them.

As explained already by others, being 50/50 in close games is average and more likely the long you coach with regression toward the mean. Hardly evidence of any issue I can see.

I think you're looking at it wrong, it's the fact that so many games were that close in the first place is the issue.

So we ran the ball on first down, then tried to pass the ball on second down, then passed again on third and that’s playing for a field goal? Riiiiight. Hey, let’s fire our head coach!

I agree.  I'm not sure what this thread is saying.

.You are looking it at the wrong way. The fact we had so many close games says we are in the game and have a chance to win most of the time. Some years we win more than we lose other years it is the opposite. I prefer that over Tampa or Buffalo who get blown out regularly.

Utter and total blind, rote, unquestioning loyalty is, indeed a form of stupidity.

So, in a way, you’re right.

Funny you think that given your blind rote unquestioning loyalty for Cam which is why you even became a Panthers fan. By your own definition that makes you stupid. I guess you are right.

It would be interesting to see how many close games a great coach like Bellinchek has over his te sure as he seldom allows close games   When they get a lead they keep it   It so with our beloved Panthers

..and no I dont think Ron is a great coach or a good coach..he is an average coach .

As Parcells said, ‘you are what your record says you are’

That's the mindset of someone that is OK with mediocrity.

Belicheck many consider the greatest coach ever. If that is the comparison level than there are no great coaches. His 2 coach of the year awards suggest many think he is a good coach.
