Concerns about Newton's future...

Partial truth here, though: There is going to come a time when Cam Newton isn't the quarterback of the Panthers anymore (there always was).

Most of us thought that time was several years away. The possibility now exists that it might be closer than we believed.

We may not want that to be true, but the reality is that's not our choice.

And when the time comes, as harsh as it may sound, we have to hope that the Panthers handle it in the best way possible.

Very reasoned take.

No need to respond cupcake

That's the best you could do? Although I'm not intimidated by your confectionary preference, couldn't this be construed as name calling thus outside of board rules? Please someone let me know, because if not I've got some poo I'd like to call this poster my self.

Maybe already said, but "future of the QB position" to me could simply be needing to draft a guy, find a legit backup, and get ready for 2-3 years from now when Cam's contract and a franchise tag or so are up.  He very well may not be signing another 5-6 year contract for health reasons.  Sucks, but it is what it is.

Is Cam gone?  Hell no.  But he has to get healthy, and then, we have to see what "new normal" really means, and if that means he can be a QB for many years to come or not.

The quarterback position has been in question since last offseason when Shula and Dorsey we're fired and the Turner's were brought in to fix Cam. The thinking was that Cam was going to transition from a running quarterback who could throw to more of a pocket passing quarterback who could run. Honestly Cam and the Turner's were doing great until Cam got hurt. I thought the transition was going very well. But with arm injury concerns and the need for him to operate a vertical passing attack featuring deep passing, there is and should be concern. Cam fans should be hoping Heinicke does very well. If so we won't have to invest a first rounder in a quarterback with the resultant pressure to start them right away, and we have someone who can start for cheap  which increases the likelihood we stick with Cam at least until his contract runs out. Otherwise we may have to move on from Cam prematurely if we have bring in a veteran or two and invest high draft picks as well in the event that Cam's injury lingers into the next season.

To be honest, the future of the QB position should have been evaluated the last 2 years. That's not a dig at Cam, but rather a complete failure of this organization to draft a backup QB and start developing him for situations such as this.

I dont think a decision on Cam should come by the current staff. If rumors of a full house cleaning are true, then whoever is brought in needs to make that decision. Let that staff figure out if Cam still has something left in that shoulder or who the next franchise QB should be.

I don’t understand. Before he got injured he was 15 TD and 4 INTs and being talked about as an MVP. Then he gets hurt and declines a little and now everyone wants him to leave. Everyone just calm down, get him healthy and we will be fine.

bo, the problem may be how long it will take to get healthy, Luck took that year plus with no certainties, Cam seems on the same track surgery on not. Draft Jalen Hurts.

Many ppl think Cam and Lucks injuries are the same. We do not know that it is yet. On top of that, Luck would have been back a lot quicker if he hadn’t re injured his should while snowboarding.

luke also plays a much less important position in today's nfl. the reality is that he's more replaceable than cam. both hall of famers imo but it's way easier for opponents to work around luke.

also unloading cam's contract does no good because that salary cap space wont help when we become a 2 win team overnight lol

no, no, no, it's skin color!

There are people on this board who are willing to risk the entire 2019 season because of their blind adoration of Cam Newton.

The Panthers are going to bring in another QB. The Panthers HAVE to bring in another QB. It might be an early round draft pick. It might be a veteran signing.

Here's the brutal truth: Cam Newton has a lower career passer rating than Andy Dalton, Marcus Mariota and Jameis Winston. And that was before the shoulder injury.

Haven't you ever done something without giving it your all because you knew what would happen in the end?  Cam knew that this is the Saint's year.  We lost 3 times to them last season.  You lose 3 times again in big games and people start questioning your ability.  Just isn't a good look for a marketing genius like Cam.

this is some bad mojo. Usually @TheRedsniffs this poo out. hhhhmmm?

They tried bringing him back after off season surgery this year and he lasted eight games before the shoulder gave out.

They have to look at it as a long term healing process and have a QB in place to carry them through next season.

He may not be ready to go by 2019. He will be under contract through 2020. They may have to wait till then to determine if he can return and be productive.

To do the same thing next year that they tried this year would be crazy.  Give him a season to heal and find a QB to do the job. Hope he can make a comeback in 2020 and return close to his old form.

Worry about extending him then after he returns. He will be healed or he may be done...time will tell.
