Report: Rivera expected to keep job, continue calling defensive plays

As for the Panthers, new owner David Tepper is expected to be patient. The team has already made a significant change, with Rivera taking over play-calling on defense. With one of the top play-callers in the NFL in charge of the unit now, Carolina's D impressed in a loss to the Saints. The roster should get younger and faster next year, as well, and with Rivera in charge of the defense it should only improve.

Similar to the Jaguars, ownership believes in the men in charge.

In addition, the ailing shoulder of quarterback Cam Newton (who isn't expected to need surgery) dramatically affected their season. Newton's arm appeared to weaken as the games went on, and it hamstrung them.

The other issue for the Panthers would be a similar one that the Ravens faced with coach John Harbaugh. If Rivera was available, he'd be either the top or in the top two of available head-coach candidates. All the more reasons for Carolina to hang on to their guy.

This can't be right

I dunno, I still kind of believe you. You seem very adamant and the fact you aren’t hiding after this report and still saying he will be fired, I sort of believe you but we will see.

Exactly how sure were you he was gone? Give me %. Are we talking 50/50 here, 80% sure, 90%, hell, 100%?

    • Well yeah. Last time vs NO if we had had good QB play and half ass pass pro it is a different game. And that is the story more often, in point of fact, than the two or three hero games everyone wants to use to define the player.  That box was so stacked against the run it was basically impossible to break through it, you had to go over and around. It is what we knew was gonna be employed by teams and we were unable to stop them from doing it.    I am real interested to see the first 3rd and 8 and see how NO defenses it in the back end. Because they can look at that Rams tape and learn, but will they have enough fear/respect that it can happen to them or will we need to prove it again before they do?   Most people don’t learn from others’ mistakes and  need to make their own.
    • I like that Tillis is so down to earth  we will see where it goes ill say something controversial on a day that, along with next week, determines the panthers 2025  and 2026 fate  he referenced ‘money ball’, statistics and self scouting multiple times. it really makes me feel that Bryce will be back regardless of what happens over the next 4 games as that is the smart move for financial stability but by no means does that guarantee Bryce anything past that.  They will improve year over year regardless of position or who is affected       however, they will do the appropriate diligence and not cut off their nose to spite their face….it won’t be an emotional decision…unlike us Huddlers….for example, if Young’s happy ass shits the bed today, I’ll be less than pleased ..particularly having seen what they will do and having a bye week.  Brandon Staley is a good defensive coordinator and former HC.  His defense is aging but he can still develop a good game plan
    • Something like 24 now. The first 6 minutes were fun, after that, oh man. It was cool tho, a near capacity, with both teams well supported.
