Rivera throwing in the towel for Week 17, per Rodrigue

A snippet of Jourdan Rodrigue’s report on Ron:

That might mean players such as running back Christian McCaffrey, who has played 96.95 percent of the Panthers’ offensive snaps this season, and linebacker Luke Kuechly (97.67 percent of defensive snaps) could get some rest.

“What we have to do is we have to be smart with these guys going forward,” Rivera said. “We also have to get an opportunity to evaluate (other players) ... You go into Week 17 obviously trying to win. But at the same time, we have to be smart. We have to be realistic. Be honest.”

“We have to be realistic” = Panther fans, please don’t subject yourselves to even follow this last game. It truly is the most useless one in franchise history, unless you’re just a CMC fan — in which case should this report be true, it’s still the most  useless game in franchise history.

Just now, Camp Fodder said:

I think he’s being retained and has been told so. Too many references to next year. Granted he will be on a short leash but I have a feeling he’s been persuaded to keep Rivera since everyone outside of our fan base thinks he such a good coach

They should support him, he’s a free win

God dammit why does this sound like he is being retained for next year?! If so Tepper is a straight up loser and a JR clone smh

Sure sounds like it doesn't it? I would have to think no coach would do this if he wasn't going to be here next year.

Why not

Might as well play some of these younger guys to evaluate.

He11,  Marquise Haynes is 1 of 2  DEs signed for next season, yet only been activated 2-3 games this year.

This is perfect time to really get Moore and Ian Thomas a heavy dose for reps for next year.

Quite frankly, id even play around and let Moton go get reps at LT and someone else even of its Matt Kalil over at RT.

Gaulden Really needs to get reps at Safety.

It's one thing to play some of the younger guys to see what we have, but benching McCaffrey seems like straight tanking. Who do we even have behind McCaffrey that we are trying to develop? If you're doing it to avoid injury, then I would ask why any teams that have been out of playoff contention for weeks play their starters at all? Whatever it is, I don't necessarily care cause I'm all for a better draft pick.

    • I love  almost everything  we did in the offseason but we still have Bryce.  They have to be favored.     Sorry I just can’t see him as an asset yet.  His first chance to prove me wrong.    And WIliams was a LOT better last year than 2024.  He will probably still be getting better before he hits his plateau.
    • Outside of both having very good straight line speed, I don't see much in common. Chark was mostly a play action Chuck it deep type of receiver. Brazzell, while raw with route running, is fully capable of running most routes. He is way better at using his body to shield defenders from the ball than chark and does a better job attacking the ball and creating a wide catch radius. Agree Brazzell will need to prove he can beat the press and I imagine he will see a lot of it when he is on the field. I still think he has quite a bit of development to go through (particularly with his route running, press beat techniques, and reading zone coverage), so I don't expect to see him on the field much this year (barring injuries)
    • Probably closer to a PK. Can't see -2.5 for us
