Just got out to the practice

Sweat is a beast

Beat one guy pff the snap easily with his speed, then put a OT on his azz with a bull rush the next snap

This is the bull rush I was talking about

"Five stars from Day 1 of practice

Montez Sweat, edge, Mississippi State: Sweat annihilated everyone he matched up against today during the South team practice. He's going to end up being picked in the top 10, and his performance on Tuesday demonstrates why he's going to be selected so early.

The former Mississippi State star showed that he has developed a few different moves with his hands, and he also showed some variety in how he rushed guys. The bottom line is he used his length to defeat blockers in pass protection on a consistent basis. He's 6-foot-6, 252 pounds with 35 5/8-inch arms. That's a big deal to NFL teams. Everyone knows he's going to grow into his frame like Danielle Hunter did coming out of LSU, and that's my player comp for him. Hunter wasn't a first-round pick -- he went in the third round -- but Sweat is going to be a first-rounder because teams are going to be quicker to recognize his talent than they were with Hunter.

Sweat was the most dominant guy out here on Day 1. If you had him as a late first-rounder, you need to go back and reassess your grade for him. I projected him for the late teens in Round 1 coming into this week, but that might be too low for him. -- Lance Zierlein"

Put this in a thread in the draft forum

Just did this one after attending yesterday's senior bowl practice

And the rumor of us going to a 3-4 hybrid

This is ran through fanspeak using BleacherReport Matt Millers big board

16: R1P16

EDGE MONTEZ SWEAT
MISSISSIPPI STATE
47: R2P15

C ELGTON JENKINS
MISSISSIPPI STATE
77: R3P13

EDGE CHARLES OMENIHU
TEXAS
99: R3P35

G CHRIS LINDSTROM
BOSTON COLLEGE
115: R4P13

EDGE JALEN JELKS
OREGON
155: R5P16

CB MARK FIELDS
CLEMSON

First off.  Sweat is MORE than worth the 16 spot.  People complained, ooh he's to small (which at 240 wouldve still been fine at a 3-4, as it is still 10 pounds heavier than Haynes, Burns and Polite)

He came in at 252 yesterday, which is only 7 pounds lighter than a favorite on here Derek Barnett.  The same Weight as Ngakoue who has been a stud in Jax, its the same weight of Danielle Hunter in Minn.  At 6'6 He's the same height as Pep.  And his arm length was lomger than guys like Pep, Davenport, Taco Charlton, Myles Garrett, etc.  He has the speed off the edge, but people dont realize his power

Round 2

Jenkins

We are losing our franchise Center.  So what do we do.  Grab what some say is the top Center in the draft.  Bradbury is good as well. And more athletic.  But he need to strengthen up.  Bradbury was quick to read and pick up blocks, but when bull rushed he got pushed back a few yards.  Jenkins is still a good athlete, but real good at run blocking as well with his strength.  Which is what we need in a offense that likes to run the ball

 Round 3

We need to find a guy at that 3-4 DE now.

Come in Charles Ominihu

Ominihu- is athletic and has a nice frame.

At 6'6 275, people dont like him at DT in a 4-3. Also he hasnt showed the bend etc on the edge for people to like him as a 4-3 DE

He is a shoe fit for a 3-4 DE, which we will need.

He has a quick first step.  Has power and good athletic ability, and is still learning.

In some drafts hed be mid to high 2nd.  But this is a deep Defense draft so he will drop.

Pick 4.

Chris Lindstrom

Big mean powerful OG

Pairing him with Jenkins and Turner makes a HUGE difference to the OL.

This is a pretty deep interior OL class.  I Got him here.  But it would be worth waving a future 5th rounder to move up if needed

Round 4

Jalen Jelks

Couldve gone elsewhere as we have other needs.

But we need help rushing the passer.  We need help im a new scheme.  We need help in youth movement

Jelks is a 3-4 OLB.

Super quick, tall, and long.  Dude really caught my eye in practice.  He fired into the backfield with ease, wouldve been a sack before the QB stopped his dropback

Round 5

Mark Fields

We need major help at Nickel.  Captain was a hige liability.  Fields is solid there.

Also the guys who want Andre Dillard in the first arent going to like this.

He didnt look good yesterday

Now Sweat looks like the best guy at the senior bowl but he beat Dillard once

Then the next rep they had, he started to get beat again then Dillard got his hands up in his facemask which wouldve been a penalty

In the full offense vs D drills.  He had a Real nice run block.  Then followed by getting beat bad by the kid from ODU, Ximines.  One Ximines blew past him and Dillard held him for dear life to try to stop him, which they obviously blew dead because the blatant hold

I really believe he is a guy where the system helped him at Washington State.

No doubt he has the tools.  But it turns into more of a project

Adderley and Sweat are top-20 picks and one might not be there at 16....no way we get both in this draft. I also don't think Omenihu makes it out of R2....he has the size and ceiling to be a beast in this league.

If we go B2B defense and land Sweat in R1 and Omenihu in R2, I'd be happy with our defense, moving forward. We've got two picks in the third round to address Center and maybe safety or DT.

Looking over the Panthers current roster & contracts, one thing keeps jumping out at me as an obvious first round investment - left defensive end. They need someone with size and length to set a hard edge, but also a bit of burst and bend as a pass rusher. Rashan Gary, anyone?

I agree with the need, but after Gary who fits that mold in the first? Zach Allen?

The other guys that are projected to possible be there are more of weak side ends.

Maybe that need doesn't line up with 16, who are some guys that fit that mold in the 2nd or 3rd?

Here again this is predicated on us staying with 4-3.
