PC Builders..

Ivan The Awesome

Recommended Posts

Sup guys. I haven't built a PC before but one of my newphews recently got me into building them. Not necessarily for me but for him and his buddies. He's currently in college and is getting an engineering degree.

So I finally decided that this year is the year I build my own rig.

I decided to make it a multiple task build. Which is why I decided to got with a Ryzen Chip build. If I was going to strictly game I probably would have gone with Intel.

Do any of you build your own PC and gone with Ryzen and if so what type of Chip and MoBo did you go with. I am currently trying to make a $700 or less build to start up but have plans for upgrading.

I am open to suggestions as far as MoBo. I'm still learning and I would appreciate any advice and help.

When looking at motherboards, first, figure out what you want to do:

Looking at your budget, you can find a good B350 for a decent price.  Just make sure it has all the slots you need for your storage, cards, cooling, etc.

BTW, just saw this on pcpartpicker.  $700 Ryzen 5 build

A good GPU alone costs $700. I would increase your budget a bit for a decent build. You don't even save that much money now a days building as opposed to buying a pre build. It ain't 2005.

Let's not get crazy here, you don't have to spend $700 to get a "good" GPU lol.

In fact you can find a GPU between 200-300 that can play most things out, unless you want to play in 4k or something, even then you're looking at 300-400 or something.       You can definitely get a GPU for $700 but it's not needed for gaming.

I'm rocking a 1080TI so $700 is conservative lol. GPU prices shot up after the rise of Bitcoin. I just think it's smart for him to future proof his hardware.

LOL WTF are you talking about.

I built my son a Ryzen rig for Christmas. You can get a good GPU for under 200. Runs Fortnight on high settings at 100 frames.

LMAOOOO Fork Knife is not a GPU intensive game dad. But sure you can built a budget rig for cheap Ivan. Just make sure the motherboard you purchase is at least future proof.

Way overkill for most things gaming that most people will need.    You only need that right now for VR and 4K and whatnot that most people don't care about.

I would never get a cheap video card, but, I'd get a mid to mid-high video card.    Probably 300ish if you want some future proofing.     Maybe 400 if you have the budget.      This will play pretty much anything at high settings minus VR or crazy scenarios.

Using a GPU as overcompensation is weird.

You have a small peen.

Love you

Let's not turn this into a PC Master Race thread because I think we could actually have a good conversation. I built my PC back in December 2016 for around $1700. Here's what went into it: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/nlannin3/saved/DkCLkL

No matter what you do @Ivan The Awesome I would use PC Part Picker to, at least on the surface, determine if the parts you're buying are compatible.

I'm not a Ryzen guy, so I can't offer advice in that specific type of built. However, I think it would benefit if you told us what you plan on doing. You already said it's not going to just be a gaming build...what are the other things you plan on using it for? What games do you actually plan on playing?

Not true. You want to run a AAA game at 1080 or 1440 at a stable 60fps on High to Ultra settings you're going to need a high end card with a minimum of 4G of dedicated GPU memory depending on how much RAM you have. If he wants to play CSGO on low settings at a stable 60 FPS then sure he can get a $200 GPU. I don't own stock in the GPU market I'm giving him legitimate advice. Don't just listen to us though Ivan do your own research and think about exactly what you want to use this computer for.
