Sweat just ran out of our reach 4.42 defensive end.

It is possible... But do you think it's likely?

Could depends

Our 2 biggest threats are Detroit and Greenbay.

Detroit is targeting Trey Flowers hard, the FA DE for the Patriots.  They land him and they probably address another need

Also Lions are Heavily interested in the Devin White.  They interviewed him at the combine

Greenbay will probably go Burns

Yes he was playing on a great college team with a great d line but he still showed up and played well against the top teams in the nation. Austin Bryant was also on that line and he isn’t being talked about as a first rounder.

Sweat on the other hand was a non factor against every top team he ever played against.

Sweat has a ton of potential but he needs work to become an every down defensive end. I don’t see him being anything more than a 3rd down pass rusher as a rookie. Sweat may have a higher ceiling but Ferrell is the more pro ready prospect  and would be a great fit with Mario this season.

If we are able to sign a significant DE free agent that’s one thing but right now we need a day one  starting DE and I think Ferrell and maybe Gary (still think he will be better suited as a 3-4 end or 3 tech) are your best options for that in this draft.

You mentioned that Sweat was a non factor vs major competition. Stats are not your friend. He had no sacks vs Bama in 2 games. But registered multiple sacks vs Auburn, Texas A &M, LSU, etc. If you like Ferrell then that's fine, but he has proved himself to worthy of top 10 consideration based on production against the SEC, Senior Bowl and the combine.

Never said he wasn't worthy, I just think Ferrell is a better 4-3 end prospect and would be more ready to start day one due to the fact that he is significantly better against the run.

Which one has a higher ceiling vs the pass? I mean stop the run isn't the reason we are looking at pass rusher. I really don't care if Sweat is terrible vs the run because we need to get after the QB. Thats the reason we lost games.

And that's just it, Sweat was near the top of the conference in tackles for loss. He plays the run very well. He averaged 10.5 sacks a year in the SEC going against the best LT in college ball. Would love to have one available at 16.

Sweat, but Ferrell is the better player right now. I would say Sweat's bust rate is higher than his chances of reaching his potential. I would feel way more comfortable with Sweat if we were to sign a guy like Trey Flowers or another starting DE.

I don't think Sweat is ready to be a day one starters and I feel Ferrell is.

This is all my opinion and I would be ecstatic if we are able to land either one.

Pretty sure one of them will be there I mean they all can’t go top 15.

Bruhs are we really going to be pissed that we got Clelin Ferrell, Montez Sweat, Brian Burns, Dexter Lawrence, Christian Wilkins, Ed Oliver, or an OT to replace Kalil with instead of Clelin Ferrell, Montez Sweat, Brian Burns, Dexter Lawrence, Christian Wilkins, Ed Oliver, or an OT to replace Kalil with?

Not necessarily. The other DL are also showing well - and his negative traits still exist (stiff, lack of power moves).  A couple WRs put themselves in consideration for top 15 yesterday - and the DBs have yet to run. Still a chance he is there at 16......but probably not a great one

    • As I've said numerous times the last few days, having Thielen on the field has literally 0% to do with my views on this (I've even said I think Renfrow is going to take a ton of snaps from Thielen anyways).  He has more value to this team without playing a single snap than a 2026 5th round draft pick does for the franchise.   His value is helping set up T-Mac, XL, Coker, and Horn for long term success by helping them learn how to be pros, how to go about their business, how to train, how to do all the little things that helped turn Thielen from a D2 undrafted player into a borderline Vikings legend.
    • He only wants to be traded because it's the Vikings who are calling. If he didn't want to be here, he could have retired, instead he took a pay raise to come back for another season.  I get it, it's an opportunity that he'd like to take, but we shouldn't cut off our nose to spite our face because he now wants to jump at this opportunity less than two weeks before the season starts. I'm not against trading him, I'm just against trading him for a return that doesn't help our team as much as having him on the roster would.  I'll put it this way, if a 5th is the best we can get for him from the Vikings and he's now dug in on not wanting to stay this year, I'm saying screw you and trading him to any of the other 30 teams besides the Vikings for the best offer we can get. He was perfectly happy here a week ago, if the Vikings soured him on that and then want to get him for peanuts, then screw them both.
    • Yes and no, he wants to go back and his wife most definitely wants to go back. He took a bunch of team mates to Minny and has worked out with JJ two offseasons in a row. It's where both him and his wife are from.    The money was basically a please come back and help Bryce. Pretty please...here's some more money.    Now he's agreed to a paycut to go back to the Vikings.
