Kalil sucks and there's a high chance he ends up on IR anyway. Williams isn't great, but he's solid.

Keep thumping your chest about your "film study" and worship of Twitter analysts no one has ever heard of and for good reason. We all remember how Funchess was going to to excel as our #1 WR and Worley being better than Bradberry. LOL!

I would love to  see Williams get a look at LG-

Who you putting at right tackle in that scenario?

We would pick one up---draft. I dont like the LT crop, but there are some potential RTs in this draft. (I hate saying this, but I am guessing what they are thinking)  Unless they plan  to play Kalil at LT, then if you do,  the OL would be "set?"

Our coaching staff making personnel decisions that make no sense isn't exactly all that farfetched a scenario.

I may be sick, but this is my favorite time of year--what is wrong with me?  Trying to figure out their moves.

Again, I'm just thinking there's more risk involved with keeping Williams.

Ideally we let him loose, draft a LT, cut Matt Kalil. Keep Moton on the right side and elite, while we let a rookie show how much better they are than Matt Kalil (not that hard) and do fine on that spot.

I just don't know if a Williams coming back from injury is good, and whether Moton can man the LT spot.

Dude, you really complaining about another competent Olineman? Seriously?  One whose 26 and just coming into his prime? One whose started 29 games in your system? For 6 mil? Really?

If he'd signed with the Falcons for 6 mil, I'd have been really happy. Even with the injury concerns. Have you looked around the league at what's available?

Moton mans the right side and keeps it elite. Idk if Williams coming back from injury will be good, nor do I know a guy who's played RT his whole career basically can up and out play LT immediately right out the gates.

Rookie LTs get their QBs killed with rookie mistakes.  If they draft a LT who can play well immediately, then Williams is a pricey back up for a year.

If Williams is healthy, then Williams at RT and Moton at LT is very likely the best combination. If Moton is only good at LT, as opposed to elite, that's still the best lineup.

Still need to cut Kalil and draft a tackle early, but this move gives the panthers so much more flexibility. Without it, you're drafting a LT at 16 and hoping it works out.

Just don't see the downside to this move.

To be fair, Dan Morgan was "competent" (and much more) but he had a lot of trouble staying healthy.

I agree with the signing, but it's worth remembering that "competent" doesn't help if it's on the sideline.

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
