Tepper helping West Charlotte High to the state championship

Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper is doing his part to help the West Charlotte High School basketball team win a state championship.

Thursday afternoon, city councilman James “Smuggie” Mitchell told the team that Tepper had provided them with two charter buses to make the trip to Raleigh and Tepper will also cover the team’s hotel rooms Friday night.

The announcement drew applause from the Lion players.

Before the gift, West Charlotte had planned to drive up to Raleigh on Saturday morning. The Lions (25-6) will play Winterville’s South Central High in the N.C. 4A championship game at noon at N.C. State.

I think this is awesome, but how is writing a newspaper article about it 'keeping it low key' per Tepper's request?

other fanbases have their beat guys camped out at the airport keeping an eye on everybody coming in and we're forced to endure this propaganda

My alma mater beat West Charlotte in the state semi-finals back when they had Jason Parker. We went on to win the championship game in a blowout. West Charlotte gave us our only challenge. Those Freedom teams were a beast. We beat Oak Hill Academy in a preseason scrimmage game that year too. Pretty sure that team finished the season ranked top 10 nationally. Six of those guys played D1 ball and two had long pro careers internationally.

Parker was a top 10 recruit committed to UNC but ended up at UK after UNC pulled his offer due to SAT score discrepancies. UK couldn't possibly care less about such things.

I know.  There's a back story to this years WC team that probably had something to do with it.
