This would be a really interesting pick-up for the Panthers, as he can play the 3-tech in the 3-4 defense they're moving towards whilst also offer some value as a 5-tech in a 4-3 on rushing downs. Probably not in play at 16 but another guy to consider at 47 and maybe even 77.

I noticed that they also visited with Dexter Lawrence at the combine. He'd be going off the board around the same time as Jones IMO. DT could definitely be in play on day 2.

My thoughts exactly.

I think Lawrence will likely go late 1st/early 2nd. I think our interest in him is likely just due diligence in case of a potential trade down (or potentially trade up) scenario.

Most mocks I’ve seen have Jones mid 20s give or take so he’s either in play at 16 also or a jump back up player. Unless everyone is wrong he’s not making it to our 2nd pick.

Hurney is going to trade up,...or we looking to drop back if certain players are off the board.

Jones will not go in the first. Lots of concern on his lack of run stopping ability. Great at the pass and penetrating on run downs, but if the play comes straight at him he struggles (to this point).

More and more im thinking we trade our first for a late first and a second if the edge guys aren't there in the firsdt that we want.

Yeah. Exactly. Some people have him listed around 80 on their big board. But there is a gap of IDL  after the first round.  I don’t think he lays until 77.  But that would be a home run IMO.  There was also some talk to moving to DE on some packages.  I like his versatility. He is bad against the run right now. But I think that can be coached up.  He didn’t test all that well at combine which yanked his stock. I still like him.

With Savage climbing draft birds we may have to get him in the 2nd if he is our guy.  If we could go Burns, Savage, Jones, OL it would make my day. Probably not gonna happen.

I just looked at a bunch of recent mocks from CBS, NFL.com and Walterfootball. Only Walterfootball had him in the first and that was at pick 28. One had him at 79, but most were 1st round mocks so on average he was a 2nd rounder. I don’t think he’s in play at 16 for us. If he goes let first, he does, but we are absolutely looking at him for 47. I wouldn’t think we are thinking 78. Not that we wouldn’t take him there but the decision will likely be at 47 depending on who else is there and if he falls further maybe we get lucky or trade up, but not 16. There are no drafts I’ve seen lately with him anywhere near 16.

I like Wilkins or Lawrence actually.

2nd round I was wondering more about DeAndre Walker— have to watch more highlights but he seems like a 3-4 OLB type like Burns or one of them.

personally the private visits are a little overrated. Sometimes I think it’s more for elimination confirmation than actual for sure interest.

its too much tipping the hand. Watch a guy at the combine and interview them, watch their tape and you know what you have—  maybe though if you want to like them but didn’t see something you needed, can confirm in private.

Wilkins is a fall back for Burns/Sweat being gone at 16. Lawrence is typically end of first, but I’ve seen him mocked plenty in the 2nd, so I think he and Jones are possibilities at 47 although I haven’t seen us linked much with Lawrence. He’s more of a NT/DT than a potential DT/3-4 DE. I’d love to see Tillery on our list as I think he’s the same as Wilkins and Jones. Seems like the draft order of those 4 is almost always Wilkins, Lawrence, Tillery and then Jones. Based on our picks Wilkins and Jones make more sense.

Private vists are for every round and for solidifying our thoughts, comparison and elimination (Ronnie Harrison was a private visit). We always invite some later round guys as well even though people immediately think we like them in the early rounds. We probably have 40 private visits every year since Clemson is a local visit and a ton more event visits so it’s not surprising that we draft some of them and even less surprising that we don’t draft most of them.

No idea on Walker. It doesn’t look like he was able to perform at the pro day and he couldn’t do the combine. He might be more of a 3rd rounder based on the what I saw.

Walker had Hernia surgery and wasn’t cleared to start workouts until late March I read, but his stats and tape look great. He’s the same size as Burns—

might be a sleeper pick. I’m sure he will do workouts now before the combine to draw interest.

Walker is 6’2” 240. Not even close to Burns. He’s really good against the run. But is inept at pass rushing right now. I do like him in the 3rd. Has like 34” arms.  Reminds me of Trey Flowers.

got to be this.  And glad we're doing that diligence is we need to move back in the first or up in the second.

    • there is one common denominator in the 2003 & 2015 Carolina Panthers teams they both had ELITE top tier Qb play.  it would require a MVP type of season from Bryce Young to have the same type of success that Jake Delhomme had in  2003 & or Cam Newton in 2015 & lead this team to a SuperBowl is this going to happen or is there any reason to believe Bryce Young is capable of playing similar to Jake Delhomme in 2003 or Cam Newton in 2015 ? well no there is no absolutely NO reason whatsoever to believe that this is going to happen in 2026 ..just saying
    • I'd actually like to see Cherelus get a fair shot to win the job in camp. Wallace is decent in drop zone coverage, but he gets abused in the play action game and is often times out of position in the run game. It might just be me, but I swear every time I watch Wallace play, I see multiple plays a game were it looks like he's just trying to be blocked. Watching Cherelus last year he at least looked like he was trying to hit someone on every play. Wallace plays like a LB who doesn't trust what he sees and it makes him passive and cautious versus Cherelus who regardless of if his decision is right or wrong goes at it 100%.
    • Agreed.  Hasn’t happened to me either, but I feel very strongly about it.  That’s not just one of the worst things a woman could do to a man, it’s a power inherent to only women and is one of the worst things a HUMAN being can do to another.  A man can’t “hide” a pregnancy or maternity.  It’s impossible.  And that sucks for anyone that has to go through that. I always got a weird vibe off her and just found her very unlikeable.  Annoying even.  I’ve always been good at reading people and there was just something about her to me that was off-putting, somewhere under the surface.  And here we are…  she is despicable.
