A-Jax needs to clean up his tackling

There was a lot to like about Donte Action Jackson during his rookie season. For a rookie, he did well, even getting the highest coverage grade of the Panthers' corners per Pro Football Focus. So, with more experience and familiarity with pro rivals, as well as chemistry with his backfield teammates, we can expect for him to improve. All that said, per PFF, he led all cornerbacks in missed tackles with a whopping 15 misses. If he cleans that up, the back of the defense will look markedly better.

He was really hit or miss as a tackler and in run support. Had some amazing plays and tackles for loss that other guys just can’t do, and then obviously had some terrible whiffs or bad angles. I like that he showed a lot of promise, with more discipline (on the field) and experience, I’m not worried at all about that part of his game.

Honestly I think his speed, aggressiveness and play recognition put him in position to attempt difficult tackles in space more often than most corners. Your average outside corner isn't even getting to the ball carrier to miss the tackles that Jackson was missing on occasion.

People fell in love with Donte early with the picks but he had a rough 2nd half. He gave up a ton of long plays and I didn’t know about the missed tackles. I’m just hoping he learns and gets better. He’s got talent but teams picked on him when they realized that they could.

I feel like he would be better in the slot than the outside.

Which is why I think if Greedy Williams is on the board, he will be our pick. Move Jackson to the nickel role, and all of a sudden our secondary looks pretty damn good.

Load up on DE's in the 2nd and 3rd.

I like this idea! I think that's what should happen.

I think that he had a rough third quarter (if you will), but not second half. But, even still, he was our best cover corner according to PFF, so there's reason to be excited.

    • I presented that scenario because this is a home game and we seemed to have improved in some capacity in that area as of recently. The problem with the possibility of sweeping the Bucs is this team has had a habit of quickly falling victim to momentum shifts. The Bucs are coming off a bitter loss the same as the Panthers but the Bucs have a much better proven track record this time of year and they have performed when the pressure is on unlike our Panthers. We have a shot against the Seahawks here in BOA but that is a matchup that could quickly get out of hand because they are a well coached team and that goes back to the momentum shifts I mentioned. I just don't see this team beating the Bucs in their stadium to close the season. Tall order to say the least.
    • I’d give it another year for Sanders and Evans, I don’t much care what you do with Tremble’s spot. Let him have another year or maybe replace him. Haven’t looked at his contract so that may be the determining factor.
    • Following the crazy up down pattern we finish 9-8 with an improbable sweep of TB, and lay an egg in the home playoff game.  I don’t know if I can sign on to sweeping TB but I suppose it’s possible, they aren’t really that good this year.    ps I can buy beating TB Sunday and losing to Seattle.  Then it just gets to can you fluke one game. Any given Sunday. So we’ll see.
