Solid post.  I especially  like the comment about combine workout warriors.  Would Sweat be top 15 if there was no internet or television coverage?  Personally, I am starting to like Burns more.

That new CBS mock has Burns going 8th and Sweat not going until 14th I believe. Draft day will show us what teams think of them. Vernon Golston comes to mind

I’d disagree, but I mentioned him as someone who could go early and push the “no way” guys down. There’s a 5 no way guys in my mind but there’s more than 10 no way at 16 guys if you add up all the posts in the various threads. Simple math says that there will actually only be 15 players selected before we pick.

In fairness, some use the metric system, which translates to 17.35 players taken in the first 15 rounds.  (I will be here all week; try  the veal).

I have a theory:  Marty historically had a terrible second round record.  Last year, he did well.  I think the day between round 1 and round 2, a practice started in 2010, may help Marty.  For example, if all of the DEs get taken before 16, we might take Greedy Williams.  Since Marty and his staff spend time on phones, trades, etc. during the draft, maybe the time to meet and readjust the board, discuss the talent pools by position, etc. is beneficial to someone like Marty.  Last year, he took Jackson in the second round when RR said he wanted a bigger CB--(paraphrasing).  Did the time to discuss this help him?  Who knows.

People forget that it only takes one team changing their mind to drop a player a good bit.  Lets say Detroit likes Burns a lot more than Sweat for whatever reason maybe Sweat does drop to 16.

Same with OTs.  I fully expect at least one to go before 16 but I'm not sure which one, and honestly different teams might like different ones.

I fully expect 3 edge players to go before 16, could be Bosa, Gary, Sweat or easily be Bosa, Gary or Sweat.  Impossible to predict who the 4th is going to be.

Ian Thomas was the first pick of day 3. I hope we are smart about using the extra time.

Good point--wish I  had thought of it.

. All I know is that we should get two solid players at 16 (please not Dillard) and 47, but the stretch from 78 to 116 is huge. We get 3 players sandwiched around 35 other players. It’s almost like having 3 picks in one round. That’s our make or break.

I  think  Turner was a third rounder,  and I like the hybrid OL C/G, G/T, etc. in this draft.  I am thinking that we get a DE in #1, a S in round #2, and hope the G is  there in #3. If we could do that, grab some depth the rest of the way, I would be happy.  Since we are on the same page about OTs, I think there are some interesting depth/developmental OTs in this draft---Rd 3?  I am guessing LG, QB, or OT.   RR has been loving what the Colts did, so there is no way we get out of Round 3 without at least 1 OL.  I would love to  see Little fall to us in the second.

I’m the same way but I’d be fine with DL, G and S in that order as well. If a guard like Lindstrom (or McCoy) is available, I’d hate to pass him over. There’s plenty of OL and S available in day 2 (and early day 3 like our 4th), so it’s going to just depend on who’s there.

Not happy with the NT position as it stands--Poe and...?  McCoy would be awesome--can play C and G.  Lindstrom is rising charts, and I like what I have  seen.  Some schools just know how to recruit and prep  some positions.
