Will Grier interview on ESPN and ABC

If he is our guy then we should draft him. There are impact guys at OT and DE in the third round. Of course there are good quarterbacks available in the third as well. I think our defense will be good without drafting an edge rusher in the first or even the second. Honestly I would be worried if we plan on a rookie to generate most of the pressure on the quarterback.

If Norv Turner agrees with you, then seeing him picked at number 47 would not be a huge surprise.

Grier is extremely raw.  He’s very athletic but not a polished thrower.  He does not turns his hips and as a result generate almost no power on his throws.  He threw a ton of 50/50 balls in college where WRs had to bail him out.  Basically a noodle arm QB. He needs a completely new throwing motion which will require a at least a year of practice.  He’s not a day 1 starter and might never be one.

Am I wrong, in your opinion, to think the higher we go at QB, tthe more we doubt Cam's recovery.  It scares me when I hear talk going from Thorson to Grier.  Climbing the ladder a lot.

He is not.  If he starts day 1, it will be Jimmy Clausen all over again.  Grier is smart and hard worker but in NFL, he will be a turnover machine unless he fixes his throwing motion.

You have studied him more than I have.  However, if he is  as smart as he is  being touted, maybe they see enough in the potential to develop his mechanics?  I dunno.

I also wonder if the rush to grab a decent QB is not to minimize Cam's leverage--preparing us to walk away from Cam if he starts in on the $36m per year talk.  If we have a good, young QB or two, we  have options---gonna make people mad, but this is a business.

A lot of people are saying the spot where we pick a quarterback is an indication of how healthy Newton is.

I'm not.

If it's anything on that front at all, I'd say it's a sign of the team's uncertainty. Basically, they truly don't know.

if someone doesn't see the need on our team for a quality backup QB, especially with Cams situation, then that person needs to stay inside his moms house and make sure to not make any life decisions.

Ha.  Assuming staying with Mom was not a life decision.  I agree with you--wish the draft was better  at QB, but I think the depth is there, just no standouts at the top.

I think it is more of an indication that Cam plays a physical game and has gotten hurt with various injuries the past 3 years. We need a backup who can win games for us. I wonder if the message to many quarterbacks over the next couple years will be few guys are worth 35-40 million a year which is where we are headed. I think there may be lots of quarterbacks who aren't going to be getting huge paydays as they get into their thirties especially when you see the success of several guys still on their rookie contract

Grier is Alex Smith lite. He’s not a QB you want to build your franchise around.  He’s a game manager.  The lack of arm strength will allow other teams to bring safeties forward which will impact run play and likely take away our big play potential.

I have been resisting this comment, but  Kyle Allen has a QB rating over 100  as an NFL starter.

Just sayin....

Seriously, there could be something there to develop as a #3.

In what amounted to a preseason game that just happened to count.

Im still trying figure out what makes him different than Jimmy Clausen.. Same body type same skillsets similar stats coming out of college.. If i want to develop a Young QB behind Cam (like they keep saying they want to do).. Id rather they be young (not 23) and have more raw explosive talent to mode.. Big Arm, can run and move in and out of the pocket and can be molded into a superstar QB..

    • Shocked at that score, good for Bostuhnnn.
    • I keep hoping he is still the same impatient dude that had Teddy run off and got Sam in and the next year Baker PJ and Sam. And then that monstrosity of a trade and pick. Please don’t change that just because it was your pick, Dave. It’s okay to be impatient.  Or, it is the wrong time to repent and find patience.
