Love or Butler at NT?

I've stated this several times in different threads but apparently it is missed by most.

Why does everyone automatically put Love at NT and Butler at DE if we go 3-4.  Butler is actually a lot bigger.

Last game of last year we ran some 3-4 looks.  I went back and looked at the personnel groupings.

All are listed as DE, NT, DE

Cox, Butler, Love

Cox, Butler, Love

Butler, Poe, Addison

Peppers, Poe, Butler

Love, Poe, Horton

Love, Poe, Peppers

Haynes, Butler, Poe

Peppers, Poe, Butler

I'm sure I missed some plays but I didn't see Love playing NT at all.  From what I could tell Short didn't play that game so I'm sure that will change the rotation but I find it interesting that Butler was used as the back up NT.

Based on this my best guess is :

3-4 DEs:  Short, Love, Butler, Cox

3-4 NTs:  Poe and Butler

I personally think we will still added another D-lineman.  Also I'm not sure what to make of Obada.  Maybe they use him as a DE on rushing downs.  Not sure how much he can bulk up.  Also I wouldn't put much in the fact that Addison and Haynes got snaps as 3-4 DEs.  They are going to be OLBs, those were probably passing situations where we changed our look at the last minute.

Bc he wont even make the team. We’ll sign Allen Bailey

Please god let this happen because all I know about Vernon Butler is that he owns a pair of Balenciaga shoes. Atleast that's what he said during his first and only press conference. Oh yeah, and him and Dave Gettleman had lunch........Dude is a bust.

No idea why people always pencil in Love at NT...the best guess I can make is that people see that iconic picture of Love with his voluptuous 8-month pregnant belly hanging out unapologetically and they assume he’s like 375 pounds.

He’s almost the exact same size as Short and with a similar skill set.

Would be nice to have Star. He’d be excellent at NT imo.

Bulter or Love? My thoughts would be Poe or KK. KK would be best but he’s seems to be on vacation since he got paid and Poe I don’t think would be better than average.

I honestly think a legit 3-4 NT is the biggest thing this team is missing.

Because even though hes bigger Butlet is a 3 tech not a 0. Hes bigger yes, but his skillset doesn't match that of a traditional 0. Hes not a space eater.

Imo he suffers from a similar issue to young talent. He's been stuck behind Star, Kk, and Poe. I'm neither up or down on him, I'm hoping the 34 looks will allow him an opportunity but dude gets no snaps consistently to make a mark.

    • Per Bill Barnwell  Broncos part ways with a CB on the roster bubble Broncos get: 2026 seventh-round pick Panthers get: CB Damarri Mathis The Broncos have a rare problem among NFL teams: too many cornerbacks. ESPN's Jeff Legwold projects they could move on from Mathis, who was very good as a rookie in 2022 before losing his starting job after the defense's slow start in 2023. He played just 27 defensive snaps after Week 6 that season and 80 more across 10 games in 2024. With the Broncos using their 2025 first-round pick on cornerback Jahdae Barron, they could justify moving on from Mathis, who might not be active on game days even if he sticks around. Mathis' best season came with defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero in Denver, and he hasn't been able to reach those same heights since Evero left for Carolina. The Panthers are set with Jaycee Horn, Mike Jackson and nickel corner Chau Smith-Wade as their three starting corners, but Mathis could push the 28-year-old Jackson and serve as Carolina's primary reserve on the outside. Mathis is owed $3.4 million in 2025, so Denver might essentially buy a draft pick by eating some of that cash, similar to what the Commanders did when they sent running back Brian Robinson Jr. to the 49ers.
    • They can get fuged for a 6th and 7th. Doesn't make sense for us for anything less than a 4th and them paying a majority of his salary.
