Hall of Honor criteria

I break the following players into 3 groups (locks, in consideration, & pre-2000 players)

Locks (3) - Julius Peppers, Ryan Kalil, Muhsin Muhammad

In Consideration (6) - Mike Rucker, Mike Minter, Jonathan Stewart, Charles Johnson, Chris Gamble, & Kris Jenkins

Pre-2000 (3) - Michael Bates, Kevin Greene, & John Kasay (I know he played well into the 2000s, but I think of from the beginning)

I wouldn’t consider any other retired player including Beason, Morgan, deangelo, Buckner, Stephen Davis, Hoover, etc

how many of these 12 would you put in?

I didn't  say I wouldn't put Cam in, I said that I wouldn't necessarily put him in at this point. There is a difference. I don't believe that Cam's career is finished, and I don't believe as @Proudiddy apparently does is that one year as league MVP gets you in.

As for Jake, I didn't say that Smitty made his career. He obviously would have had a career without Smitty. What I implied (as an opinion and not a fact) is that Jake would not be in the Hall of Honor hadn't it been for some otherworldly play by Smitty (and I stand by it).

The "character and class" comment was only meant to.point out that I would expect Walls and Gross to campaign for Cam or Delhomme. Some people are selfless and humble like that.

it's got to be about the positive impact on the franchise and ended up not just inspiring players on the field, but the fans. These are guys whose presence was missed after they left the field and whose shoes were hard to fill. It's not just about the stats, but the stats will show the kind of impact they had and why they were cheered for. 

there's no denying that sam mills had a very powerful impact on the panthers while he was here and had a long lasting impact on the culture, even though he wasn't the best defensive player we ever had and only played here for three years. who would deny his place of honor here?

who else would you put in that category? Smitty, Jake, Walls, Gross....that's a good start. 

I would add Kasay, Moose, and Peppers.

a few other potentials I would add for consideration would be Kalil, TD, Minter, Rucker, Jenkins, Michael Bates, Williams (even though he was a prick) and Stewart,

When they retire, I would for sure add Olsen, Cam, and Luke. I've got a feeling that CMC will be right there with them at the end of his career because of the pace he's on (after this year he will likely be pushing top 5 in yardage for RBs in panthers history and top 10 in receiving yardage).

Agreed on active players . TD, Olsen, Cam, and Luke all easily get in once retired. If we go way down the line, CMC, KK, and Turner could all be possibilities.

1. be a carbon based life form

2. wear a panthers jersey once

I can't even say that the 2015 team beats the 2003 team. 

Honestly,  some of the statements in this thread---in my opinion---skirt being more in tune with a cult of personality than the Panthers' franchise.

I also learned that Steve Smith hate has no limits among some within the fan base, which is kind of odd for a franchise's leader in receiving yards, probable future HoFer, and giant personality within the sport. The other thing I learned is that Cam is a lock to make the Hall of Fame. As much as I have defended Cam over the years, and bemoaned his lack of legit weapons and relative lack of consistent, first class protection  (befitting of one endowed with such physical prowess and personal weaponry of his own), I certainty won't declare that he's a future HoFer at this point in his career. Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying he won't (or wouldn't) make it, but based upon his work to date, I wouldn't say that he's a lock.

Jake made the pro bowl.  Won the skills comp.  Took us to our first SB.  Was the guy throwing to Smitty during his 05 triple crown season and Moose’s league leading TDs year in 04.

Made the playoffs 3 times, 1 SB, 2 NFCCGs.

There is your criteria.

That's fine. I never said the guy wasn't above average at his job. He certainly didn't do everything by himself. Far from it. 

If anything, it goes to show that a lot of this stuff is very subjective. The bar has been set, so I expect to see a few others guys eventually get in that I wouldn't have expected to get in. Come on down Moose, CJ, Hoover, Morgan (and whoever else)! I will say that Cam is a lock for this honor right now, regardless of whatever else happens.

The 2015 team was definitely better than the 2003 team. Delhomme, Gross, and Muhammad have all been on the record saying the 2015 team would beat the 2003 team. If you think me saying that Cam elevated this franchise to a status never seen before means I haven’t been a fan from the beginning, then sorry, but you’re lost.

Cam Newton was the first player in franchise history to win a MVP. Drew Brees has never won a MVP. Is Cam a better player than Drew? No, but let’s not just throw it aside like it’s not some impressive accomplishment. 

His personality and stardom has put this franchise in the national spotlight like it never was before. This franchise is no longer known for the Rae carruth murder or the Fred lane murder or that team who had that one underdog run in 2003. You couldn’t walk into a sporting good store in NYC and find Julius Peppers or Steve Smith jerseys being sold. You couldn’t walk down the streets of NYC and find a kid wearing a Jake Delhomme jersey. With Cam, that all changed. When you think of the Carolina Panthers, you think Cam Newton.

Lets also not forget he was the Quarterback of the team that won 3 straight NFC South division titles. Before that, not one franchise won back to back division titles. In the 16 years before Cam, the Panthers had been to the playoffs 4 times. In the 8 years with Cam, they have been to the playoffs 4 times. 

So yes, Cam Newton has elevated this franchise to a status they’ve never been before both on and off the field. To say otherwise is not just foolish l, but flat out stupid and wrong.

No, when you think Carolina Panthers, you think Cam Newton.

Cam has been a star for sure, but let's not pretend that he's been the only star of the franchise. 

This team has had some of the greats in the sport and some notable names in the sport, though admittedly some came here towards the end of their careers. Pep is still the top Panther, and 89 kept the Panthers relevant throughout his storied career. 

I have been a staunch Cam supporter since before he set foot as a pro, so you really can't tell me anything that I don't know. He will get into the Hall of Honor, but he needs to raise his game a couple of notches if he wants to be revered across the league like the likes of Brees, Peppers or Smitty.
