The wife of Ric Flair confirmed the wrestling legend is set to undergo surgery after he was taken to an Atlanta area hospital.

Flair’s wife, Wendy Barlow, announced the 70-year-old will be having an operation Friday morning. She did not disclose what the procedure was for.

“Due to ongoing health complications, Ric was taken to the hospital and is expected to undergo a procedure tomorrow morning, after which he expects to fully recover,” Barlow said in a statement sent to PEOPLE.

Flair experienced a “very serious” medical emergency Thursday morning, according to TMZ Sports. The medical scare may be related to Flair’s recent heart issues, a source told the wrestling news website Pro Westling Sheet.

Flair, who wrestled for four decades during stints in WCW and WWE, has experienced a number of health issues in recent years, including an emergency in August 2017 when it was revealed he was in the early stages of kidney failure and on the verge of congestive heart failure — the result of years of alcohol abuse.

I'm sure the decades of steroid use did him no favors either.

Flair?? steroids noooo!!

I think it's more to do with decades of hard drinking, drugs, women and the 70', 80' wrestling culture..

steroids have use besides making you big and muscular. responsible steroid use is most likely the reason he was able to wrestle into his 50s (and longer). they're used for recovery as much as for aesthetics. bret hart credits taking steroids with prolonging his career. people forget he was already 40 years old at the top of his career.

    • I thought he was from watching him play and also doing his first HC job. I thought he was the real deal  Apparently what happened is Kraft committed to Mayo and I don’t remember the timeline exactly - but Vrabel was unemployed at the same time Belichick was unemployed. They both were fired (or out) after the 2023 season.  Kraft hired Mayo. Who was kind of an obvious disaster. He probably already had the deal in place but I will give Kraft credit for not sleeping. With Vrabel out there for 2025 he made the move he needed to make and if it hurt Mayo’s feelings then oh well.  I guess you can tell I am not fond of Kraft but that was a really savvy move. At his age, pretty good. Still has it.
    • It’s going to feel like a home game for the bills. There are so many of their fans that live down here now, and many of them have never seen Allen play in person since their last visit was 8 years ago. It didn’t matter for the cowboys game, but it might here. I think we likely lose a close one. Probably a questionable flag or two that doesn’t go our way. X factor for Buffalo will be Kincaid and Knox. If we do win it’s because we get ahead and play keep away from Allen. FYI- I have many friends who are Bills fans that are fed up with Beane who we all revere and think is the one that got away. They feel like he was great to land Josh but has done a terrible job of building around him (especially at WR) and rely on him to become super man to win- sounds kind of familiar, like the last time we had a franchise QB.
    • I always thought of him as an uptight military family dude, didn't know he needs to wash that mouth out with soap lol.
