The we are rolling a LB or DT to the 4-tech in even fronts?  I figured those two were safe because they are the only 4-3 ends left on the roster.  Addison is slimming down to LB weight supposedly.

You are completely forgetting Addison who has started as a 4-3 DE here the last few seasons.  He is losing some weight to get down gaining speed for the OLB spot, but still is plenty capable of playing that spot when needed.

All signs point we will be playing more 3 man fronts than not.  So the "few" times we do run the 4 man front.  Addison can put his hand in the dirt

Why? Do you really think Haynes will even be active much? Unless Burns or Miller flame out, how is Haynes going to get time over Addison, Irvin, Burns and Miller. I’m excited to see Burns, Miller and Irvin. I don’t think Haynes will see the field much at all assuming health and no busts.

He is finally in a defense that fits him better.  Vs the trying to force him into the traditional 4-3 last year.

Plus the whole been in the league a year, getting the coaching.  Kid is oozing with potential

Rivera is clearly trying to channel the 2013 defense that had a potent pass rush that covered up a porous secondary. That secondary got exposed in the playoffs though so we'll see

I think we ran into a buzz saw with the Niners that year. Harbaugh has Kapernick really playing well and he was a matchup nightmare.

Not to mention the officiating was horrendous and the nfl was dying for the Niners-Hawks part three.

And? Who do you think he displaces? I just have a hard time seeing him get time this year when he got none last year and now we’ve added Irvin, Burns and Miller.

Obada, Cox

I blame a lot on Washington. When you saw some of the rushing formations like the famous 2 man rush, it’s no coincidence. From 2015-2017 we were second in sacks only 2 or so behind the Steelers. We fell off a cliff and our D was in disarray. I still honestly can’t understand how Washington still has DC tied to his name. It’s embarrassing how bad a job he did.

Washington couldn't playcall worth a crap

But the man is one helluva DL coach and glad his feelings hurt to where he completely left after Rivera took over the playcalling

Designated rusher. Dude has so much speed, much like Irvin early in his Seattle career. Haynes as the rusher of Addison and Irvin yes. Haynes wouldn't pass waivers to PS.

I think Addison has a really hard time finding a role now. Is he the jumbo package guy or guy that swings down low in a 4-3 ? Unless it's all or nothing and he's just a vet presence and break in case of emergency guy.

How much of that lack of pressure last year was because our secondary was playing soft?

I don't care how good your front 7 ,is if you constantly have to play off, good qbs will get the ball out before you have time to get to the QB.

Ask yourself this, how long does a sack take?  How quick can Tom Brady get the ball out?

One more deal......Miami is shopping Reshaud Jones.....a very good safety(probably better known as a SS) and is willing to eat some cap. They are deep at safety.....thin at DT.  Trade Poe straight up and they eat 8,000,000 in cap.  their # doesnt change.....neither does ours....they fill a need and so do we.....both are on 1 year deals.

Aaaand who do you project to start at NT then?

Poe is staying and is a good fit for where we are going as a defense

Yah, I think haynes is one to watch out for this year. I think he will surprise some people. It's almost like he was drafted last year with the intention of the switch.
