The Hurney-Gettleman-Hurney era of drafting offensive linemen in the first three rounds

DLine? linebackers? not buying that

Our DLine has been gashed the past two weeks and barely gets any pressure. Acting like our DLine is anything better than above average is homerism. They have a top five DE in D-Law. They also have LVE and Jaylon Smith which is one of the best LB pairings in the league. It isn't like Shaq is a world-beater like TD was.

Heres the thing...

Regardless of the GM, draft and personnel priority are set by the head coach. That's why neither Hurney nor Gettleman used a high pick on a safety. Rivera didn't want one.

If OL isn't a high priority, then it starts with Ron.

So you're starting to agree that our issues are coaching related?

As a couple others have touched on, the draft is such a crapshoot. There's usually only a couple players felt to be "sure-fire" starters and even many of those end up as busts. Look at last year: Houston took a developmental tackle prospect in the first. And in free agency, teams are going to hang onto their star tackles regardless of the price, so decent but unspectacular players end up resetting the market with outrageous salaries on the free agent market. Dallas was fortunate to hit on numerous draft picks in multiple years. There's a reason other teams haven't been able to readily replicate that and it's not because they don't realize the offensive line is important.

It's true, though.

I normally discourage looking at other teams and thinking how much better they look than us because fans are rarely objective.

But if I'm being honest, I've been doing a lot of that this Sunday.

Oh absolutely.  I haven't watched any football since Thursday.  Not sure if I can stomach it.
