If we learned that Newton is indeed "sick of football"...

Its everything from the lack of physical defense, to refs calling games crooked, to our inept organization that doesnt have the balls to rebuild..    Ron should have been gone last year.   I watched much more football 5-6 years ago when it was interesting and defenses COULD PLAY.  Nfl has really poo the bed with the referees and rules.  I cant remember a time where refs had more impact on the game than now.  They need to focus on getting it right and not upholding the obvious bad calls they already  fuged up.

Except there's a question intrinsic to the discussion.

Do you blame him?

do I blame who for what?

if the response requires me getting inside someones head, making assumptions based on body language or trying to decode a post game press conference comment... then it's impossible to answer.

It's called asking "what if". And the only thing it asks for is your opinion.

Why do ya'll have to keep making these embarrassing threads?

Nothing but potshots. Why would any QB we draft want to play here?

Again, this would be a good time to know the difference between a "potshot" and a question.

I can link you to a good online dictionary if you need.

unfortunately you cannot assume that the average person is smart enough to understand the difference.

As some of the responses to this thread have made clear :eyeroll:

It's a perfectly valid opinion at this point to say that, given the way the team has handled him, being "sick of football" - or just sick of playing for the Panthers if you prefer - is a reasonable option.

Hence, the question: Do you blame him?

Ever since I was a kid, I've always been a fan of the NFL. The 2000s & first half of 2010s were phenomenal. However, '16 season bored me to death (with the exception of SB 51). '17 was possibly the worst. '18 rejuvenated the league big time but ended up with the worst SB ever. And now this year, it's been nothing but :poo:. Only been watching for fantasy football & DraftKings.

Anywho, Andrew Luck said in his retirement announcement

"I've been stuck in this process, I haven't been able to live the life I want to live. It's taken the joy out of this game... the only way forward for me is to remove myself from football.

"I'm in pain; I'm still in pain. It's been four years of this pain, rehab cycle. It's a myriad of issues -- calf strain, posterior ankle impingement, high ankle sprain. Part of my journey going forward will be figuring out how to feel better.''

If you'll visit this website, you'll see Cam's beginning to follow the same path Luck did:

Preseason was the 4th time Cam's injured his left ankle. Already injured his shoulder twice ('16 & '18). Fractured his ribs & back in '14. Concussion in '16, knee strain in '17. Only time he's been 100% healthy are his two best seasons ('13 & '15).

Hate to say it but Cam is ready to retire. I don't think he's "sick of football", but his body is.

The refs are the same they have always been, ie they are human.  They made mistakes back years ago, and they make the now.  There are two primary differences now.  1. The explosion of media (social and otherwise) means everything is hyper analyzed to the nth degree.  2.  The rules have become more and more complex.  Its far more difficult to figure out what a catch is, or if PI happens, etc....

I do think that one reason some are getting tired of football is that there is such a glut of it.  In the old days, football happened two days a week.  Saturday for college, Sunday for pros.  Now when in season, football only takes tuesday and wednesday off.

youre assuming we know how a man feels about something, when we certainly dont, and you want me to comment of wether or not those assumed feelings are justified or not?

LoL, I'm not going there.

    • I tend to look at all of these guys and wonder how committed they are to doing special teams? It's a big deal when you're fighting for roster spots. And we need massive refreshes to all phases of the special teams game. And the idea that four or five of these players could see rotational use outside of special teams would be a win. This team has accumulated quite a bit of dead wood over the last five years and its time to take an axe to some of it. These new fellows have a shot to benefit from that if they can really push. That being said, wow that receivers room is crowded right now. I'm not sure if I was a vet player with more than 2 years experience other than Adam Thielen if I'd be too sure of my future here. Tet is guaranteed a spot, Coker earned his for sure and they aren't done with XL developing yet. That's only two to three spots left for the entire room. It's going to be very competitive and better for Bryce's future, too. Safety and linebacker are the opportunity spots here this season. There's room for the right guy and we may see a starter eventually from one of these UDFAs, either by merit or injury.
    • Aho and Jarvis just gripping it too tight right now. Relax, play their 200 ft game and the shots will start to find the net. Freddie has been excellent and welcome back Mista Svechnikov. Burns.....well, thank goodness for Slavin.
    • Supposedly he plans on staying in college for all 4 years.
