Igo has said many times that the team has for a long time "tiptoed" around Newton for fear of doing anything to offend him (something that drafting a potential replacement could conceivably have done).

I don't know if that's the reason, but it's one theory.

If that's the reason then Tepper should have cleaned house as soon as he entered the building.

We don't have access to what plays were called. We can see shifts and hear audibles, but we really have no way of knowing what plays were being called or even why Norv Turner called them. We don't even know if Ron agreed with the calls or if Cam did.

We're left to read a lot into this and speculate.

They have done this, along with a number of other things to make Cam feel more secure and comfortable.

I don’t agree with it. Never have. But it’s how two different GM’s and one head coach have approached it.

It’s the leading reason Steve Smith ended his career as a Baltimore Raven, IMO.

Hadn't actually thought about it from that angle. Yikes!

And no, I wouldn't support that either.

Person does allude to the possibility that Newton sitting could actually help the team win more games.

It's the age old question of whether it's better to play an injured starter or a healthy backup.

I find it kinda questionable in this case.

Even Favre, the NFL's legendary iron man and HOFer, has admitted in retirement that there were plenty of times when he shouldn't have played and the team would've been better served playing the backup.

To be fair, for a pretty long time that backup was Aaron Rodgers.

Ours is Kyle Allen.

Have to agree that Cam could use a full year off. Even if it means he play somewhere else next year with the looming $20 million. He would be better served with all new ownership and coaching anyways. I keep joking about it but Lincoln Riley can come on down. Bolster the OL, give Cam a true WR1 and let's have some fun.

Lol, you have a franchise QB and want to draft a QB to eventually replace him with what draft pick selections...

Name a team that has worked for aside from teams that needed to replace an old QB that used a 1st.

You're not gonna find a replacement QB based on odds with later picks, the BEST thing to do when you have a franchise QB is surround him with play-makers and PROTECT HIM.

Something the GM's failed to do for Cam most of his early career.

And then when a QB was selected in the 4th (100 ovr), but referred to as a 3rd rounder, half this place lost it's mind, and the small % of Cam haters started with the ''washed / done'' posts because they finally had a white knight, hell even Kyle Allen had some of that after a fluff game vs New Orleans in Week 17.

I think it’s a tad much to be talking about giving the franchise QB an entire year off after week two.

We’ll see. Maybe everyone else is right, and he’s that low right now. Maybe the foot is shredded and needs surgery. Maybe his wing is a mess again. I’m just not buying it yet. It’s been 90% speculation this week, and much of that falls on the cryptic messaging from all parties involved.

You know where that idea's coming from though, right?

The Panthers have drafted O QB's since drafting Newton until this past off season.  They have no back to back winning season and zero championships to show for it.  Hurney did the same thing with Delhomme after he stumbled upon him.  After Jake crashed and burned Hurney then proceeded to throw draft picks at any QB he fell in love with until he finally got the number 1 pick.  Thankfully he and Ron chose Newton.  They decided to ride him until he couldn't go anymore without regarding what happens if he can't go anymore.  There is no planning for the future with him.  It seems that it's ok to have competition at every position but QB.   So you are right in step with his and Ron's thinking.  Suround Newton with play makers and when he goes down we will just say oh well, poo happens.

I dont understand this then.....what is the reason for not using Cam in the run game at all if, according to Ron, he thought Cams foot was just fine on Thursday?  Hes alluding to there being some reason, just that its not the foot.  So, what was it then?  I think Ron is lying and hes backed himself into a corner now.

That isn't lying, that is coach speech. You don't give other teams information about your players weaknesses and injuries unless you have to. Do you really expect Ron to be totally transparent in these talks. Look at Belicheck for a reference.
