I see what is going on here....

that aside, it is worth the the time to poo on Ron for that horrific timeout at the end to give the refs a look at the PI in the endzone.

I'm sorry, but I find it very hard to believe the NFL would call a PI after review on that play.  DB had his eyes on the ball, and the Jag WR got both hands on the ball and was able to go up and catch it without interference.

Ron calling a timeout there isn't terrible, I realize in the emotion of the game, you just want it to be over and think it was really bad.  I just think he knew it wasn't very likely and it was more important to make sure the defense was correctly set-up.

With less than 4 minutes remaining in both the 2nd and 4th quarters, the Panthers had 3 timeouts.

I think we can conclude that it's not a coaching problem with burning unnecessary timeouts, no?

I think regardless of whether you love Cam or hate him, this is a very fair observation.  I tend to support Cam more than focus on his shortcomings, but I'm also coming to this conclusion.

The announcers on CBS pointed out that Jacksonville immediately subbed in a different fresh receiver that Cockrell would be covering. Their notion was that maybe Ron called the timeout because he was worried the CB who just had to go max effort on that play would have to cover a guy who was completely fresh. Most of the time announcers are worthless, but this actually struck me as a plausible notion and a timely observation if true.

I honestly don’t think Kyle calls audibles or has access to full usage of the offensive playbook, these past few weeks while we’ve seen standout plays from Kyle unless I can be corrected I’ve yet to witness anything like described.

Yeah, because every game plays out the same. We had time outs left, and we did not have Cam. Ergo...Cams' fault.

The Huddle, you gotta love it.

No I'm more Cam supporter than Cam critic. I try to be evenhanded and I have no anti Cam agenda, but I have noticed that since Allen has been our qb, both timeouts and play clock have been far better managed. I think the evidence suggests there is something to this notion. This isn't just a today thing, this has been marinating for several weeks now. Keep an eye on it next week and beyond and judge for yourself.

What I want to know is why does the communication look fast with Allen but Cam seems to have issues.  I wonder if they skimmed down terminology or something for Allen.  Odd.

Me too.  I truly believe the playbook has been custom made to fit around Kyle’s abilities. Things like the read option (which honestly is a blessing to have been removed) hasn’t been seen in weeks. Hell, I don’t even seen him call for blitz pick ups. It’s an interesting take for sure.

I'm wiling to consider this as a possibility.

Cam haters are in heaven right now. Every little thing that goes right while Kyle plays will be a Cam weakness.

Y’all really need to get a grip. Allen is nowhere near even close to a 100% Cam right now. With a healthy Cam we aren’t giving the ball to CMC at the goal line so he can throw a pass.

And a healthy Cam is for damn sure throwing for more than 185 yards against that Jags secondary.

Allen right now is a game manager. It’s clear Norv doesn’t want him throwing deep, either because of trust or because the line can’t protect him. Maybe Allen improves and becomes a really good qb but right now he can’t touch a healthy Cam

    • They've gone way overboard with the masking of plays by only filming the ball in air.  Nobody is analyzing camp highlights.
    • Canales up first. Guys got their legs back yesterday and started a little slow when they came out Bryce challenged them in the huddle and they responded "Dominant practice for the defense today." Praised turnovers, "beautiful hits," and being physical Praised Moehrig, Ransom, Incoom, and Jones II Confirmed playing starters. Predominantly a young team and can't pass up an opportunity. Emphasized game day routines such as nutrition, body readiness, etc. Plus it's a bunch of new guys on the defense. Bryce will start. Will play them the first two, but starters might sit for the third game depending on how practice goes that week. Nic Scourton has a mild hamstring that happened in special teams. DJ Johnson had an issue with his hip flare up and is getting checked out this afternoon. Experimenting with approach to preseason games. In Seattle they played their starters in all but the last preseason game and what Pete Carroll was looking for in terms of mental readiness to play football. Thomas Incoom has been getting a lot of work with AC Carter adding to his toolbelt. Getting better as a rusher and being physical in the run game. Looking for a consistency in response. 1pt for a win, 3pts for a TD. Defense doesn't like that, but in games if they give up one go ball the score can swing. They challenged the pass game and the run game today. Guys are getting together before, between, and after team drills to challenge each other Job of the coaching staff to set the foundation for our schemes, philosophy, and expectations of what it's like to play Panthers football. Powerful when players take that and the locker room owns it. That's when it becomes our team, their team. At the end of the day, the men on the field have to rebound from a bad play, celebrate the good plays, and keep each other in tune for a whole game. Robert Hunt is amazing. Size, talent, quickness, flexibility. Really intelligent guy that there will say himself there are technique things he needs to work on. Regardless of where players are at, there's a constant learning curve and loves that Big Rob is challenging himself with the position coach. Thinks the digital down and distance can be really valuable. Getting the information quickly will help with the flow of the game. Thought TMac looked great but there were some near misses that he'll have to get in the room and communicate with Bryce on while reviewing film. James Mitchell keeps doing right and his trust factor is increasing with the QBs. If you're right and the coverage says the ball goes there, it'll come. Had some issues at the start of camp but is trending up. Newton or Person: "It looked like today was beyond thud but short of live. What do you call that?" Canales: "No, that's thud. In my mind, that's what thud should look like. The challenge for our defensive guys is can you put your body in a position where we know that would've been a tackle." Whizzing by, tagging with two hands, etc doesn't show you whether you would've made a tackle. That's not real football. Let's the play extend because guys have to be ready to chase sometime where the ball squirts out from a pit. Can't train to say "Ah, it was a tackle" and relax but instead play with intensity through the whistle. Lathan Ransom is bringing the physical style of play that they saw on film. Has been really into the details and someone that they can count on. Has really given himself a chance to start at the other safety position. Excited for the extra energy from a game-like environment that they'll get from FanFest. Used to have four preseason games and now FanFest feels like that first one. Will give ST full speed reps to evaluate. Making plays and feeding off of the fans. Window closed quickly on the INT to finish practice. CSW baited Bryce with some movement and made a great play. Saw it from Bryce's perspective with TMac coming open. Has played all over the secondary that they can count on to speak loudly and be on the same page with his teammates.
