Definitely crossed my mind as well. Wondering if he provides the leadership spark on the DL that was needed to motivate him.

It’s quite possible. But it’s more likely to do with the scheme. Plus Vern knows he’s gotta make plays to get that pay day soon.

Both those are possibilities as well. Likely it’s a combination of the 3.

He's in "one year, bet you can't do it again" contract mode now.

Even if he continues to ball out I really hope we don’t re-sign him unless it is a really cheap deal. I absolutely don’t trust him to continue a high level of play once he gets paid. Let someone else pay him $10M/year.

I don’t trust Hurney to let him go so it’s a big concern.

I don't know what the market value of a 5th year guy who had 3 down seasons and 1 decent season looks like. I'd assume we keep him around, as long as he wants to stay, for relatively cheap. Do it again, you re-sign him to a deal and let Short walk.

Sure if we can get him for like $4-5M/year then bring him back but there is an enormous need in the NFL for interior DL who can get to the passer. If he finishes with 8+ sacks which he is on pace for then I have hard time not seeing someone gamble and offer him a big money deal in the hope that he can continue that. The amount of available cap space projected for next year across the NFL is pretty staggering.

Well that's on them. It's a puzzle and right now he fits in. We've seen what he's like when he's a puzzle piece that doesn't fit in.

Is the projected cap space because the cap is expected to rise by a lot or just a lot of big deals expire?

On Vernon it's simply ''playing time'', always had the tools, never had the reps. Secondly, we have GUYS real legit GUYS  that the offensive line has to account for; I feel bad KK is missing out on this. The edge guys are forcing the QB's to step up and the interior guys have been there with the push / finish seemingly since Week 3, we had flashes early, but it's been consistent since Week 3.

    • Gonna be interesting to watch. All reporting indicates he's gonna be out. From what I'm hearing he's out. The interesting part will be what happens next. The job has been staying within the "family" since Dean retired. But there's no one within the family that makes any sense at all right now. They'll have to go outside the family to hire a coach that's likely to be successful and tension between the school and the basketball family is already high right now with this plot to move the arena to Carolina North because the folks within the basketball family want it to stay at the Dean Dome and they feel misled because they feel like there was never any real consideration of revamping the Dean Dome and this whole evaluation process was just meant to make it look like that was being considered. The best outcome here IMO is that we hire a great coach from outside the family and we revamp the Dean Dome as an olive branch to the family. But the powers that be REALLY want a new arena at Carolina North.
    • yeah outside of 3 shots in a row for arsenal nothing has happened.  I need a quick goal for them and then MC start to press.  Need 2 shots for Arsenal and all 4 still for MC
