Trade Deadline News

Mr. Scot

... and/or speculation (which there will probably be more of than actual news).

Word that the 49ers are getting trade offers for backup quarterback CJ Beathard, offers described as being "in the sixth round range".

Reminder: The official deadline is 4pm tomorrow.

I’ve been saying a trade needs to be made, a reliable returner for us is worth a 5th at this rate.

if our wrs are truly struggling to get open aj green is a must as far as inquiry.

whatever is needed to fix the run defense is also worth a Inquiry.

and of course any o linemen worth a damn should be number 1 on our hit list.

without looking at cap implications, turner should also be on the block, if feasible

If I'm Tepper, I'm not allowing any trades that either involve taking on new money or sacrificing draft picks. I hope he's now seen enough to reserve that for the next GM/Head Coach.

I would consider allowing trades that rid the Panthers of some high-priced contracts, if possible (ie. Trai Turner, Shaq Thompson, Mario Addison, maybe even Paradis).

What is clear is this is not a playoff caliber team, most of which is the fault of the coaching staff. Time to regroup and reload.

For those hoping for AJ Green

"They are basically philosophically opposed to the idea of making trades," said one NFC GM. "It's a waste of time to call them. But we did. And it is what it is. You may as well be speaking a different language."

The Bengals view AJ like the Cardinals do Fitz, it'll take a king's ransom the likes we've never seen to get AJ Green out of Cincy. But that was basically implied when Dre Kirkpatrick said the team would riot if Green was traded.

    • One thing I didn’t consider is how thin this draft is at quarterback. That’s going to drive up the market for backups and borderline starters like Willis, Jones, and Jameis Winston. Because of that, we’ll most likely be priced out of the market for this tier of backup.
    • We've already beat the #1 seed twice, why not one more? (Packers and Rams were both #1 seed at the time we played)
    • My determination has come down to this. Based on recent QB history, has Bryce's improvement warranted 50m per season? Lamar is the only original team QB to play on his 5th year. The others took major deals at the end of the 3rd, before or just after the option was signed. Chances are, we're getting asked for the same.  I haven't rooted for Bryce to fail. I've rooted for him to succeed so big that them signing that extension would give me no worries about our future at QB at all. We haven't seen that level of play consistently that this year. We haven't seen it in the past 6 games.  We're about to be at a threshold with Bryce and I worry about what this front office will do. We have a history of bad decision making and Morgan has been part of that group making those decisions. I don't want Carolina in the same boat Arizona and Miami are right now. It has nothing to with being right. It has to do with wanting to win for more than a single season. We've never had back to back winning seasons. Faith in their abilities is not warranted at this point.
