How many weeks of rehab does Cam have left?

Gotta think what’s in the best interests of both parties here..

Cam is going into an important contract year in 2020, regardless of where he ends up playing he needs to be at 100% this year before he takes the field.

Panthers have options concerning Cam. They can cut him and save 19m, they can keep him around and make him the long term starter. But they also need him at 100% this year before he takes the field. Nobody knows what he can do right now.

Double-edged sword.

If he comes back too early and looks bad, it hurts him.

If he comes back too late and the season is already decided, people don't pay as much attention.

Honestly, the best possible option for him might be to not come back at all. That leaves it all open to speculation but also allows him to say that he's rested and healed and ready to return to form next season.

Mind you, I think the ultimate decision will be that when he's ready to play he'll play. I have to admit though that I'm not generally one to fault a player for looking after their own best interest.

My personal belief is that Newton returns against Green Bay, but I could also see it taking a week longer.

I'm all for that.

However, would that be too tough of a situation for his first game back?

That's not something you take into consideration.

Whether or not he's healthy enough to play is the only thing that matters.

Again i agree....but we seem to be in the minority on that.  A lot of folks definitely wanted to hold him out of SF game because it would be too tough of a start, seems like Green Bay would be similar.

If Cam is truly healthy, he is the best option the Panthers have at QB. If he is, you have to play him. At 4-3, we aren't out of playoff contention if we put together a run. Green Bay, Atlanta, NO, as soon as he's as good as he's going to get, he starts.

I've seen a few folks say they want to wait and put him in an easier game where it's less risky (Atlanta rather than Green Bay for example).

That philosophy doesn't take into account just how important every game remaining is to any playoff hopes we might have.

My only concern is this, why if the injury was this serious was he not placed on atleast short term IR.  It's been 10 weeks since his initial injury vs NE and 6 since he last played a down.   If he is incapable of playing and would require this much time to heal, might as well have IR'd him and opened up another roster spot.  Basically, goes back to my thought that we have one of the worst training staffs in the NFL, just garbage at diagnosing anything correctly.

Cam has a different perspective on taking care of his own body this year. He talked about this with Nick during the summer. I think that applies to this process. I really do think he’s going to take as much time as he needs to avoid the risk of re-injuring it.

Do you still feel the same after the video he released or do you think he has had an epiphany since the TB game?

If true seems odd he'd go play games 1 & 2 while hurt?

Today in his press conference Ol' Rowboat said:

"Cam is in the middle of his rehab program, he's doing the things we ask of him, we'll go ahead and start Kyle".

(next question)

Later he said:

..."the last update I got more-so than anything else is he's going through his rehab, and as he continues through that they will give me updates as to where he is, and we'll see.  Again, he's probably had a workout today, or some sort of treatment, he'll have one tomorrow, he'll have one on Wednesday, and we'll probably get an update by then.  But right now as I told you guy we are going to this game with Kyle as the starter."

(Ol' Rower seems like he is completely in the dark on what Cam is doing on a daily basis)

According to The Rower the rehab program for Cam started the weekend after the first Tampa Bay game....Rower assured us Cam was rehabbing over that weekend --- that was 6-weeks ago.

If Cam is truly "in the middle" of his rehab program this implies 12-weeks total (not unexpected with a Lisfranc injury)....

....this would imply an initial start on 12/8 against the Falcons at their place --- probably a good place to get him going, Falcons aren't putting up much of a fight against anyone.

My thought was 12/1 at home against the Redskins would be his first start but giving Cam one more week won't hurt anything.

Closing Observation:  When the subject of Cam is raised Ol' Rowboat is visibly uncomfortable and his body language is horrendous, truly a bizarre situation.

(would love to sit down at a poker table with The Rower!)

While it remains tough to be specific it now appears reasonable to bracket the answer with.....

.....[A BUNCH].
