Cam doesn’t seem ready to go...

I don't see anything in there to change my mind that he (finally) gets a chance to heal, intends to make the best of it, and in all likelihood we see him back in camp and doing what starting QBs do in August.  Whether there is another injury or his shoulder holds up over an entire season are valid concerns, but also vast unknowns.

Best case: we have a starting QB back in the fold, he looks like he did the first half of 2018, and a backup that has proven himself.  If that happens, we deal with Cam's contract beyond 2020 from a common point of strength.  For the record, I am not expecting 2015 Cam, and I think setting the bar at that level for a 30+ year QB that has too often been used for a battering ram is not only unrealistic, but unfair to him at this stage of his career.

Worst case: no, the worst case is not having to part ways after 2020 because he can not hold up.  In that case, he may retire.  The worst case is having no definitive answer for being patient.  Winding up with another injury that some will say is a freak thing and some will point to as more of a pattern.  I think no definitive answer winds up being an answer in the negative.

Tepper didn't amass his fortune by overpaying for assets based on what they were worth five years ago.  He also didn't amass that fortune by ditching assets too soon (although too soon is usually better than overvaluing them in the first place).

He certainly deserves a whole lot more and better than the hate this fan base gives him

The fug are you talking about 90% of the Panther Jerseys worn by Panthers fans are CAM JERSEYS. Go to a game and find out for yourself. Stop claiming the 2-3 morons on this site as some sort of representation for hundreds of thousands of people good lord it isn’t you and cam vs the world and only you can understand and appreciate him, fuging creep.

This.

What's "off the wall" when loads of sources are saying the same thing?

Look, I get that seeing Newton's story end this way sucks (a lot). But again, hating it and denying it aren't going to change anything.

Said it elsewhere: I've had loads of favorite Panthers over the last 25 years. I couldn't name a one of them that had a happy ending.

That's football. It chews you up and spits you out.

Now, if you want to talk about Newton being mishandled, the team not giving him enough support, any topic like that you've got a valid discussion.

But reality is still reality, and trying not to read the writing on the wall doesn't make it go away.

It doesn't actually say any of those things though.

"Charlotte will be forever in my heart" doesn't equal "I'm staying in Charlotte".

"You guys" is an extremely flexible term that isn't necessarily exclusive to Panther fans.

And "I will continue to support the Panthers" doesn't mean that he'll be playing for them. It actually sounds very external.

Honestly, I'd say you're the person who's reading it the way you want to read it.

I understand this is something that nobody wants to see happen, but all the denial in the world isn't going to stop it.

His first sentence adresses charlotte and panthers.  The second sentence says you when you was defined in the first sentence.

Did you even read the post I quoted?

Rodrigue actually believes Tepper is the one who might be most resistant to keeping him.

She points out (rightly) that Ron and Marty have a way deeper connection to Newton than Tepper does. It's also fair to mention that he comes from a football background with a team that doesn't have a problem moving on from older or injured players.

Over the last several hours I've looked at a whole lot of information from different sources with regard to the future. Pretty much none of them I think it's likely that Newton sticks around.

Yes it's possible, but based on everything I've seen I'd be really surprised.

I'm counting on Tepper to be the cold voice of reason in this scenario.  I don't know if Cam will ultimately be able to do what is needed or not.  I do know that neither Rivera or Hurney can be counted on to objectively make that call.  I'm also have no faith in their ability to make a solid decision on what happens after Cam, if it comes to that.  Enter Tepper, perhaps sweeping them all away.

As far as a consensus among the pundits, I think the consensus this year was that the Browns were going to challenge the Chiefs and Pats.  Honestly, I see a lot of  inside information as glorified gossip mixed in with a lot of speculation, which tends to be right about as much as random luck.

Maybe, but predicting a football season and talkin about what's actually happening inside the Panthers offices are two different things.

What "source" is saying that Cam wants to leave? Care to elaborate on that?

None of the ones I'm seeing say that he wants to.

A lot of them say the team is ready to move on.

And if we're being real, Newton no longer being a Panther was always going to happen. The only question was how and when. Sucks to see it happen like this, but again that's pretty common in the NFL.

We could easily be having this same discussion about Luke in a year or two. Ditto McCaffrey, Olsen and well... everybody.
