What is the trade value of Cam in 2020?

Recommended Posts

That's a good question.

Before the season started a thread like this would have gotten the OP possibly banned. Now, it's a very real possibility.

Any past history to use a benchmark? Trying to think of a comparable situation with a former NFL MVP QB. This is almost unprecedented if you look at the last 30 years worth of NFL MVP QBs. Favre was moved for a 4th rounder...at the age of 40.

It might make more sense to look at former star RB trades as I believe Cams value might be closer tied to that of a RB than a true QB.

Without Cam having been healthy for an entire 16 game season in two years, the Panthers (or any other team) would  have to take a leap of faith by signing Cam to a conventional contract for a top tier QB.

There are still many ways the Panthers can decide to go in 2020, but the only way Carolina is gonna get high picks in return for Cam is from an owner/GM desperate enough to roll the dice and/or Cam being willing to sign a incentive laden contract that may not reflect his true potential.

You've got to find a combination of things...

- a team with a need at quarterback

- one who's not necessarily in position to use a high draft pick to fill that need

- a GM who's okay trading for a guy that hasn't been healthy in 2 years

- system fit probably matters

If you can't find all of those things in one place, you're probably looking at a tall order.

I could see the Giants biting for sure. Gentleman likes former Panthers too.

So Dallas?

That's my belief where he ends up. The Fan contract is up in the air. As much media attention Cam gets, Jerry Jones would eat that up.

I don't know that this is even possible in today's NFL, but I'm old enough to remember when the Raiders signed Jim Plunkett and let him sit on the bench until he was fully healed (after being physically pummeled in New England and San Francisco).  Once he physically recovered, Jim went on to lead the Raiders to two Superbowl victories.

Given enough time to heal, I could see Cam's career having a similar trajectory with the right team.

Titans, Bears, Buffalo, or sleeper: Vegas.

Or he just retires and no one gets anything.  Still think that is happening.  He may say he wants to come back right now but I dunno.  Just got a feeling...

I think a very real sleeper that nobody has mentioned is, Denver.

I think Pat McAfee joked about that earlier this year and how weird yet beautiful it would be.  Fun podcast BTW.  They took his football soul, he joins them to reclaim it.

    • Saw this show up in my new feed. Nice to see a couple of our rookies making it into the top 5 so far, even if it is a pff measure... From https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-top-15-rookies-week-9-2025 ... 4. TE Mitchell Evans, Carolina Panthers (78.7) Evans struggled in the Panthers’ tight win over the Packers, finishing with a 41.8 PFF overall grade — third worst among tight ends this week. He was not targeted in the game and played only one snap in pass protection. He did log 15 run-blocking snaps, and although he earned a 68.9 PFF run-blocking grade in zone looks (seven snaps), his 39.0 mark in gap schemes (second worst for the week) dragged him down to a 46.6 PFF run-blocking grade overall — sixth worst for the week. Despite seeing zero targets over his past two games, Evans still leads the Carolina tight end group with a 74.3 PFF receiving grade. He has caught all nine of his targets for 90 yards, six first downs and two touchdowns. Evans also leads the Panthers’ tight end group in PFF run-blocking grade (72.2). He has recorded a 20.5% positive play rate across 175 snaps.  5. WR Tetairoa McMillan, Carolina Panthers (78.6) McMillan had a better day against the Packers, recording four catches for 46 yards. Most of that production came in the first quarter via two 16-yard catches — one of which he snatched from Carrington Valentine’s hands, who was in perfect position to break up the pass. McMillan accounted for three first downs on the day, although Green Bay was able to limit his impact after the catch, holding him to 0.8 yards after the catch per reception. McMillan now has 41 catches for 558 yards — a top-15 mark. He is also tied for second with 19 explosive gains of 15-plus yards. Three of McMillan’s catches against the Packers came between the numbers, bringing him to 22 for 318 yards and 19 first downs (tied for second most) this season. He owns a 26.1% threat rate and a 76.6 PFF receiving grade between the numbers. He also ranks in the top 10 in explosive gains (10) and yards after the catch per reception (5.5) within that area of the field.
    • At least we don't need to hear overreacting about towels ...
    • Actually there is, try being a Charlotte Hornets fan. I mean the team fuging moved at its peak and hasn't recovered since and that was 25 years ago
