LOL @ the Chargers. They just let them run it right up the gut in 3rd and 1 for a TD from about 15 yards out.

Now it goes to Rivers with a minute to go with all three timeouts.

I haven't seen much of Rivers this year but tonight what I saw wasn't good.

Also would have been smarter for field position not to pick that last pass off, but it didn't come back to bite em.

I get that he had pressure on that last pass, but the safety took the outside guy. The inside guy got a free release to the post and it looked like that CB thought he had help. If he throws that ball to the inside it may have been a TD instead of a pick.

Chargers OC lost them this game. They had the ball down 2 at their own 25 with over a minute left. Gordon was absolutely lighting the Raiders up on the ground with that time left and timeouts you do no abandon the run which is working the best... So what do the Chargers do? Not even put Gordon out there and have Ekeler in on every play telling the defense they were passing. Then throw like 8 straight incomplete passes (with a penalty on 4th down saving them) before a pick. Run the damn ball, keep the Raiders D honest, you had time. That was pitiful coaching.

I swear, at least 3 different data baristas who have never touched a football in their life fed me analytics this summer that appeared to indicate the game of football had passed Gruden by. I’m serious, I know of at least three of these people personally, and they all told me this crap face-to-face.

Since I’m not in absolutist, I’m willing to give everything a little time to marinate. But as long as we are making snap judgments here, let’s go have a quick check on the kiddie table:

Well now, you see, that’s where gets a little bit dicey. I get your premise, and it does make some sense. For a long time, I would do the correlation game and tell myself “how the hell can we lose to this team when that other Bad team beat the hell out of them”.

The NFL is a different animal. What the Chargers did to the Packers last week was a case of having the right match ups for right opponent. I only watched about half of this game tonight, but it sounds like LA was without one or more pieces on the o-line. Clearly, it had a major impact, Phil was sacked and picked off three times and was under constant duress.

Also, it’s quite possible Green Bay just had a horrible day last week. Sometimes, you fly out west and you just don’t get it done. I know Carolina has had those types of games before. I watched the Chargers/Packers today, and LA absolutely wore their asses down. 

Plus, it’s a Thursday night game. And there’s also the fact that Oakland has been coming on pretty damn strong of late.
