Update: Poe torn quad, out for the season

This Defense is such a clusterfug right now it's frightening.  The scheme is in limbo, the Dline is in limbo and no one appears to know what to do about it.

Season ending injuries to two big men on the line and everyone else running in circles trying to clog running lanes and make a play.

Forget it about it... can't be fixed this year and maybe can't be fixed next year either ( with the Oline fugged as well.) Very disheartening.

Why do we need to extend CMC this offseason? We have him next season, plus his fifth year option in 2021.

When it comes to CMC, IMO there are two options:

  • Go ahead & declare the 5th year option in 2020. THEN give him a 3-4 year contract extension. That will make him a Panther up until 2024 at least. Prevents him from seeking a higher salary & the possibility of holding out. I doubt he'd do such a doucebag thing, but with the NFL ya never know.
  • Declare the 5th year option & use him 1000% of the time. Then franchise tag & trade him in 2022.

Bill Barnwell from ESPN.com made a good point recently on which RBs deserve to be paid big time in 2020, how recent RB deals have been disasters & it may be wise to be cautious give extensions to RBs:

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/28121690/all-nfl-running-backs-get-paid-2020-why-recent-deals-look-disasters

Teams nowadays LOVE to use RBs to the pulp @ minimum salary. RBs can run, catch, maneuver, juke & even throw TD passes. But the majority do not last very long. RBs who have been signed with monster contracts recently (i.e. Bell, Freeman, Gurley, DJ) are not performing the same they have in the past, or at least before the contract extension. So that's why I say we either give him an extension now than wait until after using him to the pulp for 2 more years. It'll be cheaper now than it will in 2021.

Cut Poe outright and schedule Short as a post-June 1st cut and completely start over at DT.

Thats honestly a solid idea, i do think short still has something left tho. But it may be better for business but also even more reason to fire Rivera and let the new coach retool areas of the team in their fit.

Doesn't really matter at this point. Rivera has been using him wrong and our defense has always sucked.

Using him wrong? He could replace the injury cart?  Dude sucks better off falling to the ground every play and make people go around him

Anyone else coming around to the thought of a full rebuild like I have been saying for the last 12 months?

We are a mess, top to bottom.  Enough talent to win against the bad teams that don't know us, bad enough to lose most of our division games, but still good enough to not get a high draft pick.

Average.  We are an average football team, like we have been since this whole thing started.

7 winning seasons in 25.

I've been there, but I'm gonna guess you already knew that.

I have been in the camp that believed the rebuild should have started the day Tepper bought the team.   But I have been told Hurney is killing it so what do I know.
